Suspension Knock - Advice Needed

Hi

I've recently noticed a knocking sound coming from the front offside suspension particularly on uneven surfaces and it seems more so when turning left. I thought maybe a balljoint has gone so took the wheel off yesterday. All the balljoints seemed ok (no splits in the rubber or leaks)

I put the wheel back on and with the car still off the ground, pulled on the wheel. I noticed when pulling on the back of the wheel there was some movement and a knocking at the top of the hub carrier where the 2 upper arms join. I'm thinking that maybe the bush in one of the upper arms is worn. Possibly the rear of the 2 arms as this one seems to move more.

Can anyone advise if my diagnosis seems correct? Also noticed a split CV boot so will have to that at the same time.

Cheers

A4 B5 platform is particularly susceptible to this. many vehicles had a recall to correct issue with suspension arms. You might find a quick call to the main dealer saves you a few quid. Just ask "I believe there is a an outstanding recall on suspension arms for my vehicle. Could you check the reg and make sure it hasn't already been done.

Even if it's just a worn bush you might get lucky as they will have to replace the whole assembly (inc. busgh) as part of a safety related recall programme. I've done this a couple of times on both sides of 2 x A4 B5's.

Best of Luck
