Got a couple of modified S4's I'm looking at buying and after a bit of advice.
One of the cars I'm interested in is a Noggy Blue Avant with almost 140,000 miles.
It looks like it's got a good service history, including several owners on here. Lots of modifications including K04's, RS4 clutch, cambelt & associated bits etc all done at MRC recently. Suspension is RS4 I believe also.
The only thing that concerns me really is the engine. Is this mileage quite a lot for one of these engines, or do they stay nice & strong so long as they are looked after properly?
I've come from the Volvo tunng scene (dont laugh) and even though the faster tuned cars (300bhp+) would get to 150,000 miles no problems, they got a bit tired by that point and engine power outputs would fall with loss of compression etc and they started to feel quite "baggy" etc.
Is this something I should worry about with the S4?
I've seen plenty of these cars with 100,000 miles on, so it doesn't bother me buying one with 100k. But buying one with 140,000 means that should I want to sell it in a couple of years, it could have 160,000+ on the clock & surely nobody will want to buy the car then, regardless of condition.
S4 Pre Facelift - 140,000 miles. Moneypit or shrewd buy!

Mikey-S brought his 130,000 mile S4 along to the rolling road day last month.
It was stock apart from an XS-power exhaust and DP's and it managed 275bhp (so +10bhp on stock).
That's a pretty good example of how well these engines last I'd say, as I wouldn't expect just an exhaust/dp's on an otherwise standard car to show much higher gains than that, even on a much newer engine. Also Chris from MRC is running his at about 330bhp with over 220K on the clock.
But one thing not to forget... ALL S4's are money pits!

Hey BT thanks for the post. I know all too well how much some fast-ish cars can cost! My 280bhp Volvo swallowed £450 a month just on maintenence and mods (not even including petrol)! Could have probably run an RS6 on that amount!
Good to hear these cars tend to have tight engines after 100,000 miles! Puts my mind at ease somewhat. Now I just need to choose between a K04'd silver S4 saloon, and a K04'd Noggy S4 avant! Why are there never any K04'd Noggy saloons for sale!! That's really what I'm after......
