4wd Oversteer

Hi,
Decided to test the 4wd system without ESP today and discovered the thing could actually go 40 degrees sideways. Was caught by surprise and applied opposite lock(1/4 turn).
Is this normal? Would have thought it would have more grip and understeer-must admit it was full throttle out of an empty junction but still. Must be more fun than i thought.....or maybe my rear differential is duff.
Car is bog standard btw.

My Gt-Four used to own the junction oversteer.
Slip the clutch a little when pulling off, plant the throttle, and let the clutch the rest of the way out.
It'd go as if a giant had just kicked the back end of the car as hard as possible.
My S4 shows no signs of wanting to do similar.....despite having the same 50/50 mechanical split.

How do you turn off ESP on a Audi S4 B5?

Try the button marked ESP, if you have one that is. ESP arrived sometime in 1999 I think. Mine is a May 99 and does not have ESP. If your car is older than that, it wont have it either.

If find the quattro reassuringly surefooted, but I'd say the PFL cars without any traction aids can be quite lively if provoked. You really do have to try harder than you would need to in a 2wd car though.

On European cars, the facelifts all have ESP.

Check the tyre pressures. The rears too low will cause this.
B7 Rs4 now does this on roundabouts if you are being too agressive, i like, reminds me that I ain't the boss..>!

1999 Jan, I haven't got esp

Avant sideways must look awesome. I wish someone else would drive the car so I can see it too. I think its all helped by the previous owner who left some poor cheap tyres on the rear.

Only if I can steal the engine out of yours when your out playing with the remolds! Will be changed soon as the B7 RS4 brakes arrived so forced to 18" wheels.
