Post faclift rear bumper on a pre-faclift saloon

Hi,

I've got a pre-facelift 98 saloon.

I was rear/side ended by a skip lorry, so need to a new rear bumper but the body shop have told me that Audi cant supply the same pre-facelift bumper.

I've read that the mid- & post facelift cars have a reshaped rear bumper, is this simply a direct fit? Or do I need search for a pre-facelift bumper?

I couldn't find any info on VAG parts, but did find the stock numbers on

I have the Audi removable towbar, would any modification of the facelift bumper be needed to use it?

I need to speak to the bodyshop tomorrow, so any advice would be great.

At least the Avant rear bumbers are exchaingeable without any modifications. I think that with the sedan model it is the same.

This is exactly the same problem I had, albeit with my avant. The bumpers are different pre and post face lift, and so are the towbars.

Assuming that the avant bumbers are very similar to the saloons, and assuming the towbars are the same, I don't think your towbar will fit anymore. You could make it fit, but only after hacking a big section out of the bumper. Not ideal.

Your options are quite limited....... you either search around the forums/scrap yards for a bumper or you search for a newer style towbar. Neither of these items are available from Audi which pissed me off at the time as I thought car makers had a duty to supply parts for 10 years.

If you go down the towbar route. I believe westfalia were the original suppliers.

my mate had a facelift rear bumper fitted to he's 98 S4. no problem at all, but didn't have a tow bar..

when i had my 99 prefacelift fixed after i crashed it awhile ago, the bodyshop put on a facelift bumper on, didn't even notice till a few days later as i had just got the car so didn't even know there was a difference!

they seemed to fit it easily enough and it looks good, but i don't have a tow bar so cant help with that one sorry.

edit: sorry forgot to say its a saloon as well

I did a search for rear bumpers before posting but missed your thread Chris, maybe I skipped it because it was for an Avant. Thanks the link. I couldn't find anything useful for 8D5 807301... A GRU or EA GRU or GRU A, although I did find references to these via Google.

8D5 807303 F GRU (prefacelift with AHK?? - from same link as above) - maybe AHK translates to parking sensors in German

I think these are Post-FL

Armed with the info from this thread Audi or VAGparts will be able to help this morning.
I really don't want to hack into a new bumper so if I can only get the facelift bumper the towbar will be permanently detached.

I'll update this evening with what I've found out.
