Heat Soak

Post by jfeb » Thu Feb 15, 2007 9:22 am

I am not referring to the heat soak "normally" referred to but heat soak into the sensors that measure outside ambient air temperature. I have had problems with my climate control for a while (gentling varying air temperature for a given setting and faulty distribution of air on the "auto" setting) and last night in stop-start traffic I noticed the outside air temperature on the DIS rising steadily as I was stuck in traffic. When the traffic opened up the temperature reading gradually returned to "normal", only to rise again when the traffic stopped.

Does anyone know if there is meant to be a fan or something that passes ambient air over the air temperature sensor? I understand there is one sensor in the internal air intake box and one near the bumper. I can only assume my problem is with the one near the bumper. VAGCOM doesn't show any errors.

the temp display is suppsoed to take the lowest of the 2 readings from the sensors, placed as you said

reckon you need to vagcom it now for further answers

eddiecrawford - thanks for the info. I didn't realise it takes the lowest of the 2 readings. I have both sensors on order from VAGPARTS - just waiting for delivery. I will change them both and see if the problem is fixed.

Do you know if the front sensor has air blown over it, and if so by what - the radiator fan?
