Front Brakes...?

Post by Harley » Mon Feb 12, 2007 12:56 pm

Hi guys,

Just about to purchase soem EBC Redstuff pads to replace my worn existing pads.

Now I have a V reg '99 S4 and as the guys at MRC stated... it is the bastardised facelift (i.e. has the new dash layout and one piece headlights but still has an analogue clock).

It seems that around the time my car was made (1999) the front brakes were changed and I have two options on brakes pads (97-99 or 99 - ), so does anyone know what brakes I have? Rather than me taking them apart to find out...

Any info greatly appreciated dudes!!

H.

Not sure how you are getting on, hope you got it sorted if not a few photos for you re pad dimensions - you will need to remove a pad to find out what you have, hope this helps.

You can see the Torx bolt fastening on the up to 99 model.... Mine was manufactured 11/98 and has bolt fitting on pad (the pad with hole in it e.g 97-99)....... think later models have some clip assembly ...should see it clearly through alloys ......erm I think

There are/where 3 different calipers, pre-facelift....mid facelift.....facelift. The mid-facelift was Sept/Oct/Nov 99 cars. As far as I'm aware there are no 3rd party pads for the mid facelift car.

My May 99 facelift S4 (with analogue clock) defo had the facelift calipers - I cleaned them and painted them one sunny afternoon, so I can recall the odd square casting mark in the middle of the caliper.

AFAIK, it had ALL the facelift updates apart from the analogue clock - there were later updates in 2001 too (like Hitachi MAF and no F hose)

If the mid facelift calipers are the 4 pad per caliper type then thats what I have and you can get after market pads for them but their not cheap ..... I was quoted £220 for EBC yellows

Mike,
Very unlikely you have the mid-facelift calipers as yours is a full facelift car.
Mines a 99.5 (facelift with analogue clock) car registered June 1999 and has the facelift calipers.

Thanks for the pictures Doug.

My brake pad warning light came on today....I was going to get EBC discs and Redstuff pads.....I spoke to my local audi specialist and he said that i might suffer brake judder because they are grooved and dimpled? Does anybody know if this is true? I was thinking of changing the fronts and rears all round, discs & pads.... If anybody has any other options other than EBC that are decent and not too expensive then great....Thanks in advance for any help or info.
Hmmm, its fast but is it fast enough!!!

You would be better off with Ferodo DS2500, EBC pads are less than great in IMHO
