Hi guys,
well, yet another MRC tale.
Up there yesterday for gutted pre-cats and custom remap on an otherwise stock engine and exhaust, (what a difference a day makes !!!).
I eventually left at about 7:30 with a massive grin on my face.
I just can't get over the power increase / £ spent. If there is anyone left out there with a standard S4 who's considering mods, just have a chat with these guy's first.
You will not be dissappointed.
Big thanks to Doug, Minhea and Stuart.
Regards
rsdreamer, (or maybe not anymore !)

Did they mention your peak MAF reading and approx power?
Good to hear all went well - must be like a new car to drive!!

Well, for all you guys out there wanting to know the figures, here goes:
MAF 267 g/s @ 5900 RPM, Peak MAF 273 g/s @ 6500 RPM, approximate power is 330 - 340 BHP.
On the basis that most standard cars are probably putting out less than the quoted 265 BHP, you can easily see how the smile on your face just keeps getting wider.

I was thinking about getting the same done too. Did you say you had a stock exhaust too mate? or is it a miltek?
I went to MRC a few days ago and had health check. All is working fine . Thanks to those who gave me advice and recomended MRC. Will definitely be going there again.
Did gutting the Precats make a lot of difference?
I was just confused on which chip to get. Thinking of a custom from MRC, or SKN / MTM. I went into my friends SKN chipped S4 yesterday and thats just extremely fast compared to stock. Felt faster than a MRC generic map which I tested on my car when I was there. So Im not sure whether to go for the MRC custom or a chip based ones.
My friend has said hes had no problem s with his SKN. ALthough its £200 more expensive, I felt power in any gear all the way up to red line. (he did have a miltek and mine didnt when i tested the generic at MRC).
Im going to have to have a long hard think and going to give MRC another call to see what they advise.
Glad youre happy with your remap pre cat gutting mate.
LEt me kow how you do on fuel please. lol

Just out of interest, what makes you say that ?

David, vehicle manufacturers figures are based upon measurements taken when components are new, and within ideal design tolerances.
After a vehicle has done 25K - 35K miles, the ideal tolerances of machined parts wears down slightly, thus producing slightly less than perfect figures.
Parts wear out !. If any car is genuinely standard, and has done some mileage, (which most of ours have), then the stated standard BHP figures will start to reduce with age / mileage.
It may not even be noticeable, (I thought mine was ok, until Doug isolated a slight air leak on the TBB and a faulty air valve), but it will have an effect. Maybe only 2 - 3 BHP, maybe even 10, but the majority of 'standard' cars will perform somewhat less than the stated figures 'when new'.

Or in some cases better due to lower friction on moving parts.

Simon, interesting, but I've not come across any over the past 20 odd years of playing with cars. But you could well be right !!!

VW's & Audi's are famous for it - especially the bigger motors as they loosen up... you see higher HP figures. One common one was always the Golf GTI - the good old 8v motors seemed to get better with age!
