Ever experienced this......
Ever experienced this......
Hi all,
Have any of you experienced this..?
When I'm braking (not hard) and about to come to a stop it feels as if the brake pressure eases a bit giving me the feeling that the pads are slipping. I can also feel it through the pedal and it wasn't like this before my car had some work done recently. Even my missus noticed it so it musy be blatantly obvious..?
And advice welcomed as always.

What work was carried out recently mate..? maybe you glazed your discs ....?
RE: Ever experienced this......
New springs, service, track rod arm, cv gators, diff seal.
Nothing to do with the brakes.

Did they have the calipers off to do the CV gators? Maybe you've got some air in there?
RE: Ever experienced this......
but they manipulate the brakes in doing all that ... hope all grease was removed before refit of those front(discs) legs mate - specially the cv grease - coz it has a slip properties within - also they could have taken brake pipe/calipers off the front to do cv gaitor/diff seals.
Sorry I dont wanna state the obvious .... but only you have said its not the same and you should know -

RE: Ever experienced this......
it might be unrelated but mine had a drive shaft replaced because a sensor (ABS) was worn causing it to do some strange things at low speeds/low braking pressure. The sensor is part of the unit & guess what it's a couple of hundred quid from the stealers lol

Funny that,
When the engineer returned from test driving it he said the ABS light was on and fiddled behind the wheels. He told me to turn the ignition off and then on again. Hey presto the light was off..?

That'll be a some debris between the sensor and the driveshaft where it's been out

I have currently got a similar problem on my Avant. When braking at low speeds the pedal seems to give very slightly and brakes seem to be grabbing sharply causing all occupents to surge forward. Its almost as if the brakes are applying themselves. I have taken it to 3 garages now and had mixed reports from water on the servo to faulty ABS sensor. I have had it rigged up to the VAG diagnostic thingy twice and no fault code comes up (Not yet taken it to a main dealer though). Neither have I got an ABS light on to indicate a warning.
The only advice I have been given is to continue driving until it gets worse and the light comes on. The alternative is to have the brakes stripped down and components tested / replaced which is obviously going to get costly. I would welcome any comments on this problem - I love the car but this is becoming a real pain.

Brakes don't grab, feeld more like the opposite. Took it to Fontain again today and when put on the ramps they said nothing was wrong. I wasn't having that so I got the engineer to drive the car with me in it and within 5 yards he could feel it. His diagnosis was the ABS pump as you can also hear a whirring noise whilst stopping. They want me to return the car to them for further investigation.
Luckily they let me drive a nice A2.....

Shagga, maybe coz the grease monkey said put yr ignition off and on again(clearing abs light) you could well have a sensing issue, maybe one of the front abs sensor leads is breaking down, giving spurious result for the abs ecu to deal with, you may have a circuit thats opening and closing(broken wire) affected and noticed when using the system .. high resistance due to same, but would have thought that would show as dtc,
I had similair on my S2, but that was a shot accumulator..
Im guessing you have ESP, well the pump for that is bolted underneath your ABS unit, this is supposed to ensure you have correct fluid pressure at each caliper/wheel, does it feel hot/warm in comparisson to rest after a usage..? is it this over working and not your ABS..?
I dont know if VAG caters for that, not having ESP I have never checked,
but it sounds like its pressure not being produced constantly, apart from your foot, this little unit is your next stop i would say ... sorry no pun - just my limited vocabulary ----

Interesting reading Rolskji,
I'm booking it in now to have the fault looked at and no fault codes were evident.
Derdle, Thanks for your broad shoulders and words of wisdom. I will, as always, be careful but the A2 handles like it's on rails...Unfortunately roof rails.

....be careful with all that power and torque!

Sorry - it was a bit of a flippant comment - I couldn't add anything technical I'm afraid!
Sadly I once had an A2 1.4 diesel as a "courtesy car" (bit discourteous if you ask me!) and I distinctly remember peering under the paper bag on my head (to hide my shame) and seeing a 2cv overtake me....and it was 4-up!
