TURBO TIMERS!

I'm doing my homework on all there is to know about S4's and as i slowly make my way through hundreds of posts i have'nt seen one yet about turbo timers.
i hear lots on replacing f pipes etc but nothing regarding t/timers as these to can prolong the life of your turbo's as they allow your car to keep running after you've got out and locked it. this allows time to drain the oil from the chambers rather then just going balls out to work stopping and getting out leaving the oil to cook and clogg up over time thus causing ££££ damage.
do any of you guys use these devices or do you just sit in the car to let it cool b4 turning off or not bother, start-go-stop!

S4 already has a system in place which a lot of us have modified, it's an after run pump.
All you need to know is in this thread..

I have after run pump mod and a turbo timer. They don't do exactly the same thing, but have very similar effects. No, they're not 100% necessary, but it does help cut paranoia a fair bit.
You might run into problems with the factory alarm and a turbo timer though. I still can only let mine run for 30 seconds after I lock the car before the alarm goes off. 30 seconds plus after run pump is fine for me though.

Pity about that NeilMc, I thought I read somewhwre about a fix (on AW ? - they like their Turbo Timers in USA)
For the trouble and expense it hardly seems worth it for 30 secs, I think I would rather sit in the car for 1/2 a minute instead !!
Presume you had no idea about this before you fitted your timer, in which case...Thanks for the Warning.

The alarm system is different on the US vehicles (which is why it regularly rates on the most stolen list over there), so it isn't usually an issue, epecially with the GReddy timers. I didn't know it would do it when I fitted it, but even knowing that now I would probably do it again. When I first installed it I was assuming it would have to run for a few minutes everytime I left the car, but now general opinion is that 30-40 seconds is fine for 90% of journeys... and I am ALWAYS late, so 30 seconds after the car is locked does make a difference to just shutting it straight off. In the morning, going to work, sometimes the only chance to push the car is on the very last road... and I take every chance there is.
I got the timer from an AW member off the classifieds so it didn't cost me that much.

I had a Leon Cupra that has the same problem in that you cannot lock the car with engine running plus alarm sets itself off. I purchased an item from the states that alows the car to run after its switched off and allows you to manually lock the car. If you dont lock the car, the device then activates the locks when the engine shuts down. There is also a switch that when activated shuts all the windows. Got it for the bargain price of £33 delivered and when wired the same time as turbo time takes 5 mins to fit after 1 wire to the door locks is located.

The auxilliary cooling circuit on an S4 is not a turbo timer of sorts, it exists to protect the water cooling system when the engine is switched off whilst the static water is too hot around the turbos.
It pumps water backwards across the turbos and up into the cylinder heads. This is to prevent water bubbles from forming on the metal surfaces in the turbos which would prevent effective water cooling of the turbos when the engine is switched back on.
The system is not designed to carry heat away from the turbo bearings and oil.
