Hi All,
I know there has been some discussions before about the fuel tank capacity, but has anyone ever managed to squeeze 68 litres in?
I did last night at the BP sevices at the junction of M4 & A34 (southbound), pump 8. Been running for about 20 miles after 0 miles range and I did use the button, but I still thought the capacity is 62 litres.
The till man didn't know when the pumps had last been calibrated, I'm tempted to contact National Weight & Measures, but I want to check if anyone else has put that amount in. I've got a '98 S4 Saloon, pretty much standard.
Even after 68 litres the range only showed 235 miles!
Cheers,
Mark
Fuel tank capacity
RE: Fuel tank capacity
Either somethings wrong with your car or you need to get you right foot re-calibrated!Even after 68 litres the range only showed 235 miles!
The most I've ever filled up with is 56 litres - the DIS was showing 0 miles.
Nige.
I'd been nursing it along the M4 to get to the sevices, so no heavy right foot this time.
Before it was recently serviced I used to get a range of 320ish on a full tank, but since then it reads low, I never put that much faith in the computer anyway, usually get about 300 miles out of a tank & use the mileometer as the guide.
Cheers,
Mark

The car has an extra capacity for fuel expansion or something, its in the manual as I used to squeeze an extra gallon in until I read the manual and it told me not too....68 does sound excessive though, thats almost the same as my jetski....and the fuel consumption on that is horrific (100miles a tank....riding easy). Most I have ever done in car is about 58litres.

Yes, the official capacity is 62 litres, but that's unlikely to be full to the brim.
The max I've every put in in one go is 60 litres, and that was after I REALLY thought I was going to run dry.
What's this "button" I read about?
As Nige mentions, I bothered to track my real mpg vs DIS mpg and found it inaccurate, so I recalibrated it (using VAG-COM). AFAIK it is not possible the recalibrate this DIS range though.
