car crash :(
car crash :(
Hi All
Well, driving along happily on Saturday at about 20MPH, and someone pulls out of a side road without looking and smash into my front.
The bus was about 3metres forward and had flashed them, but the driver obviously hadn't looked to the right.
Anyway, i think a turbo maybe cracked, front leg on the chassis bent, light smashed, radiator on that side knackered, bumper knackered etc etc..
Basically... if the chassis is bent will it ever be the same? Should I just sell it straight afterwards? Has anyone had similar happen, and have you been able to argue value lost to the car with the insurance because of it ?
etc
Thanks
H

No airbags which was weird, but I guess they didnt go off either because of my low speed (as they only activate above 20 i think) and also because it was a front side
impact rather than head on?
I'm pretty sure the turbo's knackered as it's all very compacted down in that place and if I turn her on she'll cut out within a second
unless she's revved a bit and then even then she'll cut out. May not necessarily be a knackered turbo but something down in that bottom
corner has had it and it's making the ECU cut her out.
The front arm on the chassis is definitely shifted back, I had my local garage that do alfas and fiats look at it and they wouldn't touch it
cos it needed jigging according to them. speaking with the accident repair centre they seem to think it'll be better than i've ever had it
once i get it back as they'll do the 4 wheel tracking etc etc, but i did that a month ago anyway, so ... anywaay... :'''(

Oooh looks nasty. Especially given the nobbo pulled out on you. However, every cloud can have a silver lining. Looks like it was his fault, so shouldn't affect your no claims.
Even if it is a write off, this could result in the purchase of a new sporty Audi. There are some tuned ones out there which are relative bargains.

Can't see it being a turbo as the are at the back of the engine , i think that it will only be down to a smashed intercooler . Do you have RS4 I/C'S , If you dont ,try to get it repaired @ a good body shop as they could allway's do a estimate to include rs4 i/c + pipes.

A really good one, might put you an RS4 bumper to go over the RS4 intercoolers.

Difficult to tell just from that photo, but I'd agree that the point of impact is much further forward than the turbo.
But it is very likely that the forced air side of the induction system will be ruptured and indeed that would affect the mixture and cause a stall. However more importantly it means that unfiltered air is getting into the engine so I really recommend that you do NOT start it again!
My advice would be to pay careful attention to the damage assessment. If there has been damage to the turbo or to the top end because of particle intake, then this may not be immediately apparent during repair. So you could end up with serious engine problems after the insurance has paid up. I'm sure you know that turbos must be replaced as a pair, and this involved removal of the engine. As for damage to the top end...

If it's got damage 2 the front leg , the garage should remove the engine 2 allow the jig plates 2 be fitted , ideal time for a kko4 convertion!!!!
As it's not your fault get a "NO WIN NO FEE " company in .There enginers will put down for anything 2 make the impact look bigger!!!!

RE: Hmmm
I Don't mean should try to get the turbos for free , just if the engine is out as part of the job it would be a good time to change them if the garage can do it for a little extra cash !!!

I'm with Grizz on this one, look on it as an oppurtuninty to upgrade, see how you can make it work for you.

Good opportunity to upgrade indeed, but IMHO there are too many people using accidents to squeeze people or companies for cash. My comment was directed at the "As it's not your fault get a "NO WIN NO FEE " company in .There enginers will put down for anything 2 make the impact look bigger!!!!" comment.
