RS4 Dual mass flywheel conversion to one mass

(i'm putting this issue to this section also because it doesn't get much hits in modification section)

Hi, I got a RS4 flywheel and resurfaced it. Then I got and idea to lighten it. I have opened the FW and removed the springs and stuff from inside. The original FW weights 12 kg, and now it is ~8 kg. I would still like to lighten it some more, but is it worth it? It could be done by removing material from the "back disk", and with that it could weight about 6-7 kg. There is also a small problem how to attach these disks together. I am a little scared that how would it last?

And then about these harmonic vibrations, are those so big issue that the whole project is worthless? I know that people are using one mass flywheels, but not like this. Or should I just "plug and play"? ;)

Looks interesting, ive always wondered what is inside the DM FW, there have been a few people on S2's use the 3B flywheel which is singlemass anyway instead of the DM version. And another had an alluminium 3B version made which was lighter still. From what i remember about 7-8Kg is about right for a road car, any more and it becomes too much.

How will removing the DM affect the FW operation and its strength?

I've never played around with making the stock dual mass a single mass.....but i know of people who go to the single mass Sachs unit that have very good results without vibration.

Basically it should't affect in any way, because it is attatched from the same points than original. But there is no more "softness" in play, so that might make some differences. And the actual plate where the force is transfered is not modificated, so that also makes sense that it should be equal to the original. But that is theory, and that I would like to know in action. Maybe I have to be the pioneer? ;)
