Some Q's about my S4

Just a couple of questions really,

What is the S4 supposed to idle at ?
mine idles at around 1500 with the aircon on or off

Also, the brake pad indicator has come on on the dash, when i went over a bump (nothing major, just a pothole)

Front pads look virtually brand new, rear pads do look a tad low (again, nothing major, must be just under a centimetre left on them)

Could it be a sensor ? and are there senors for the rear pads aswell as the fronts ?

Many Thanks
Olly

Hi Olly, 1500 is way too high. Mine sits at 800-900.

As for the brake pad indicator, are you definate it was for the pads? I would be inclined to think it's a case of the brake fluid sloshing around giving a low level warning as you went over the bump (may be ever so slightly low)

If it was the pad light, take the front wheels off and check the connections. AFAIK there are no rear sensors.

thanks for your reply mate, You've got me thinking now, so i've had another look in the manual.
the icon on the dashboard is a cirlce with nothing in it, with brackets around it. Sort of like this

(O)

In the book, the brackets are dotted, which means brake pads worn. Just trying to find out what that symbol means now !

oh, and its yellow in colour

thanks again

No idea mate, it could be a number of things. A vacuum leak for instance.

If you are new to all things Audi you should get yourself a VAG-COM diagnostic setup, even if you are not into tearing your motor apart it's always useful and interesting to know what's going on with the cars electronic systems. It can save you a deal on repairs too :)

yeah, i think i might just do that. I've just got rid of my mk3 golf vr6, so im used to VAG, but the S4 has so much more electrics its untrue !
Do you have a link to the vagcom site ?
