Hello All, just a quickie, came across this web address one day whilst browsing for S4 information. Step by step guide on how to change over your unreliable Bosch MAF, for the later Hitachi one.

Hope this is of use to you all!!!!!!

IIRC that needs new software also, so not so easy anless you live in states and have $$$ for the whole fueling kit!

The guide does say 'if requested' about the chip which implies that it's not mandatory. Since the guide also mentions fine tuning of 'drivability' issues, maybe that's what the new chip is for. So perhaps the Hitachi MAF can be used in place of the Bosch one without without a software upgrade, and reliability will be improved.

OK, dumb question, how do you tell which you have - spanners or VAG-COM ?
I suspect mine will be the old one but thats OK, I am old too.

Mine has Hitachi written on it, which I can see just by inspection (with engine cover off). I think that Hitachi was only fitted to very late models.

From 2001 and beyond, they were hitachi.
New wiring is needed if you want to do this setup.

NO.
The voltage transfer functions for the two sensors is completely different. You absolutely need different software. For US spec, it's A box to M box conversion.

Is this an ECU swap(plus the above change for the MAF) or does it require a rewire?
