Vibration @ about 1400rpm

I have noticed recently, as driving with the windows open in the sunshine, that my cars has a tinny rattle / Vibration. only happens about 1400 rpm under gentle acceleration. Doesn't sound major, sounds like loose bracket or heat sheilding. Checked along by the exhaust, all seems tight there.
Any ideas, thought it might be the bracket holding the undertray, as that doesn't look to strong?
Cheers

Could be the Heatshield problem. I suggest you take it to your local Audi shop and have them check it out.

Agreed, sounds exactly like the heatshield. If you search here, there is a cheap fix for the problem if you car is out of warranty.

Yes I think Toasty managed to fix his rattle himself.

Did he fix his teething ring too?

That would be a short term fix - the heatshield problem is part of a more serious turbo related issue (at least on early models). It required chaging of both manifolds and turbos.

Thanks,
It's got to go for a service within the couple of months so I'll get them to check it out. Any idea on price as it's out of warranty!
Also is it just loose, or is it more serious and is it likely to do any damage?

Had a look at the Topic "Exhaust Manifold" from Jun 2003.
In there there is lots of discussion about trying to get the job done on Warranty.
drbroadbent refers to Direct Warranty covering it, I take it from looking at there list of whats covered this is only under the Gold Package?
Has anyone actually had Warranty Direct pay for this job?

Have had the car up the ramps today, and if my understanding of what and where the heatsheilds are is correct, then I believe the rattle is caused by the one on the nearside.
I am assuming what we are talking about is the shield over the top of the turbo just in front of the bulkhead. There appears, looking at it from the top, (coolant resovoir removed) to be a bolt on either side to the front near the back of the block.
I put the car up the ramps and went underneath, the back of this appears to be secured with Jubilee clips. All of these seem tight.
Also viewing it from underneath you can see that the bolts go through to a bracket. the one furthest from the wing is visable and appears fine. However the one the otherside is obscured from view even with a mirror, but as this is where it appears to be loose, I can only assume that this bracket has broken.
With this in mind I can't see why it's a big issue, surely if I secure it in some other manor it will stop the vibration and as at present the cars performance seems uneffected why is it so serious?
