AFAIK the limiting is done in the ECU, so reprogramming is needed.

Yep I think Dippy is right. AmD could do this I'm sure.

Unless a VAG-COM whizz knows better ?

I suppose also it's worth pointing out that depending on the version of the 2.7 biturbo engine, the 155mph speed limiter may not be an issue anyway.

If it's the 265bhp (S4) engine (unlikely if it's a 2002) then you might just make 160mph in it, but not much more, so it's debatable if the limiter is going to hinder you much.

If it's the 250bhp (Allroad) engine then I reckon 155 would be about the limit anyway.

If it's the 380bhp (RS4) engine then sure it's worth removing, guess that would be good for 175-180mph

If it's been chipped or tuned then same as the RS4.

I should add that when I first got my S4 I was so amazed with the performance that I thought it'd be good for 170-175mph, however the standard engine just doesn't develop any torque at high revs and that coupled with the gearing means that you get to 100 really quickly and thing that the car has loads left, however at 140 you start to feel the acceleration slowing and by 155 (160 indicated on the clock) you've pretty much hit top end.

Thanks for the replies lads. Ive just collected the car from AMD today. They cannot remove the limiter, but have re-mapped the ECU and fitted a massive, hybrid exhaust system, and viper D /Vs. Torque is well up now.I am impressed with final result.

That's odd cos AMD removed the speed limiter (i.e. NOT the REV limiter) from my chipped S4. And I had just shy of 170mph (approx 167mph) on more than one occasion. On the track of course. :bigblink:

Interesting while the last numbers on the clock was 160mph there were further markings for 165 and 170 but no numbers.

Interestingly my RS4 will do 162mph before the speed limiter kicks in then it drops the speed to 158mph
