K04 upgrade

Post by kamming » Mon Nov 07, 2005 6:07 am

Will it be possible to just change K04 turbo and its intake pipes without changing ECU & injectors? Will this move harm the engine? My car is chipped.

I dont think it would harm the engine, but to get the most out of your upgrade you would need to remap.

Without a remap, all you're going to get is more lag. To take advantage of the K04 increased airflow you need to increase fuelling as a minimum, and the ECU controls this. The K04s are capable of increasing the airflow beyond what the stock fuelpump and injectors can handle, so the remap needs to take account of this in order to avoid running lean. To get around 400 bhp you need to uprate the fuel system.

Dippy,

Did the AWE DTS make a big Difference to your car, thinking off getting it done myself, along with some lowering :D

Yes it did, but since it did not remove all the 'slop' (can't expect it to of course), and I got used to it very quickly, so I don't appreciate it any more. There again since nearly all my driving is now in 30 mph zones at rush-hour, all my mods are a bit wasted at the moment :(

I wonder if the DTS will cause the transmission mounts to wear quicker...... I got used to mine very quickly too - so I thought. I just had RS4 mounts (engine and tranny) and I can really feel the difference - no slop what so ever. (RS4 mounts+Snub+DTS). Gear shift is nice and tight.....

Hey Mik,

Who did your engine mounts? I ahve taken he car to AMD and Dialynx
now and both times the car has been given back with the RS4 mounts
still unfitted. Admittedly Dailynx had a lot of other stuff to do (RS4 IC's)

I see you are in Surrey - anwyere local?

Cheers,

Jon

Hey Jonny

I had a lot of work done by Tom Cockings in Somerset - very good mechanic and MRC dealer, but guess not local to you. Just back from MRC today actually....Banbury isnt really that far away (junct 11 M40) and they have a nice shop with lift etc.
