Audi Warranty - Is it Worth It

As you will have seen from my recent post I'm pretty new to this.

I've just been having a look through some old posts and it seems like there a lot of potential for things to go wrong!

My car is a 98 and has just clocked up 30K, is it worth getting an Audi extended warranty, do they even cover cars this old, any ideas on price, does it cover the important bits.

Or should I just get a shoe box and put a tenner in everyday!

Must admit, I've gone for the latter. £100 a month into a specified reasonable interest account. May not cover a blown turbo but I can't face claiming under any warranty - the time, the aggro, the expense.....from the posts on here no warranty is perfect and you only find out how good or bad it is when you have to make a claim. I can't see many warranty companies wanting to pay out £3k for replacing turbos on a car which is over 4 years old and done over 50K miles like mine!!!

The best "approved" warranty is the BMW product which seems to be no quibble replacement of pretty much everything without fuss. A few friends have cars under this scheme, and BMW changed the wiring loom of one car after it was eaten by mice...

Audi warranty is not go great, especially when you consider that the renewal certificate i got the other day asked for over £1100 for a single years cover. They are reluctant to investigate problems, don't cover some items that "may" be wear related and overall the warranty procedure and dealer network doesn't leave me with the feeling that I have value for money. The extented warranty that Audi sold last year was only £750

This year, I think warranty direct will get my business, for about £350 it should cover most of the expensive failures to a certain extent and will allow me to use an independant specialist who actually cares about the cars he deals with. Whatever you opt for, make sure it has parts and labour and also something to do with consequential damage, i.e. if a spark plug breaks which damages the cylinder head, then the claim covers the lot, rather than just the failed component...

The Audi approved warranty has recently covered my £4k turbo replacement job, new alarm, new headlight washer pump and new horn on my 3 year old S4!!!

Warranty Direct seem pretty good. I have just been quoted £377 for a year on my 98 S reg with 30K, for their Gold package (strange as my car is nearly 6 Years old, but I've asked for written quote).

I have a query with them though as prior to me owning the vehicle the previous keeper took it off the road for a while and missed an annual service as it hadn't done more than a couple of thousand miles. So I've asked if they'll still cover me.

I understand from looking at previous posts this covers the Dodgy Heatshields as will which I may have???

Has anyone ever had problems with Warranty Direct as it's seem too good to be true on paper!

I took the Audi extended warranty last year (£750) and had no problems with three separate claims totalling over £ 4k.

I have taken it again this year because I figure even with zero claims I am still £ 2.5k in profit.

I've just extended my factory warranty for my '00 S4. It cost around £850. I think whether or not it's worth it all comes down to your own peace of mind! I'm not going to renew it next year, instead I'm going to go for a Warranty Direct Gold policy.

Audi warranty just stumped up for two new turbos CATS intercooler 4 lambda probes, DVs, oil filters, etc I reckon it had to be about 4-5K worth of work. See my pics of an RS4 engine/front end completly removed in the gallery if your interested.

I had a warranty direct policy with my previous S4. I never go the chance to claim but I figure they would cover the heat shield prob before Audi would. Plus you can use an independant at a lower hourly rate if the warranty comapny won't stump up. Its a tough call. I lived with it for the S4 on the basis that I didn't pay veru much for it and if the turbos went it was an excuse to have the KKK004's fitted!

Still have another year left on my audi warranty (unlimited miles), the car will probably have about 65-70k on by then, if they will allow me to stick another years warranty on her I will most probably go for it. If mermory serves me correct they are not interested in any cars with over 100,000 miles on the clock or 5 yrs old unless fsh, may be wrong??
