Race between me (stage 1, 320hp) vs A8 4.2 TDI !

Post by C-24 » Fri May 07, 2010 1:28 pm

Hello guys,

For those who know me and my story, my S4 is finally fixed, it was in limp mode for some strange reasons, but a great mechanic succeeded in getting it as it should be!

Today I was driving on the freeway and an A8 4.2 TDI overtook me, at around 100mph (160kph), I was driving normally but I decided that it would be a good opportunity to test the S4 against a really strong car (I drove the 4.0 TDI and it's a very impressive car!)...

So I joined him and we started to push a little further around 180-200kph (115-125mph)... then I went in front of him and started pushing the car slowly above 210-220 and so did he... on the flat, when I would press full throttle he couldn't get close to me, but then we had some long curves that we took at 220-230 (135-145mph) and it wasn't really flat, we were going slightly uphill... then I pressed the gas pedal to the floor, went to 240 and he overtook me at around 250 in that long curve, that was impressive!

So my opinion is that the 4.2L diesel has so much torque that it's a lot easier for it to accelerate in high speed cornering, hills than the S4 with the 2.7 ... but on the flat, mine can easily accelerate up to 260-270 (didn't get a chance to go more but it can) and I think that after 230 the A8 can't keep up... of course I bare in mind that the car is maybe limited to 250kph, that's why I compare the S4 in the speed zone below 250.

Since the S4 has two catalytic converters (IIRC) if I had a decat and some downpipes, catback, with around 340-350hp, I think I would win in those long curves and hills :)

What do you guys think, what kind of cars did you have the chance to race?
I remember one on the forum (with an S4 B5, and about 340hp) said he raced an audi S6 (the new one, with a 5.2L engine) and after 3rd or 4th gear he left him behind, the guy in the S6 was astonished :)

Yeah that is very true. Extremely so. However, when you have seen what a high speed RTA does to a human being you would not be so eager to "plant" the next time around. I'm a qualified paramedic, and have seen the aftermath in the flesh. I'm not an old fart either, I'm only 27! There is a time and a place for it, and ANYWHERE other drivers are around that have nothing to do with your "race" is the wrong place for it. You would see it from my point of view if you saw a 6 year old with no head because the driver suffered a head on collision with a couple of cars that were racing. Hate to be a drag/put a downer on things (I love going fast, but choose appropriate times) but if you were me you would be sober towards the matter too.

I think you need to take a step back and relax. We are just having a simple conversation about the speed of cars and discuss the small measures we can take to improve performance.

It doesn't really mean anything and it's something we do to generate discussion and have a bit of a laugh.

Lets not go down the orad of judging each other and comparing our RTA experiences.

Lets get back on track and chill...

HA HA !! I'm with you mate. I'm always relaxed. Thing is the whats posted above isn't a discussion about speeds/experience because nobody replied for almost a month!

I'm not part of the NHS mate. I used to be a private paramedic in a trusty Volvo!! Not doing that anymore but still qualified. I agree with you mate, those ES drivers are right choppers!! Nice try though bud!

You didn't have to mention the NHS because you said "services" and not "service" and the NHS is part of the "services"....Your words not mine. I'll give you a shovel on the next post, but your already pretty deep!!! Oh, FYI, it's not actually deemed an "emergency" service in the private sector due to 88% of callouts being of a non-critical nature. Look it up lad. You reached OZ yet?
