miles per tank part 2
Re: miles per tank part 2
I took the car in to the dealer today and had to pay £95.76 for them to plug a 1551 in to the car and tell me there is nothing wrong with it.
I did get a free carwash but 95 quid is a bit too steep.
Im not imagining the car drinking petrol so there must be somthing wrong.
Or is it that im just going MAD

Re: miles per tank part 2
Take it to AMD or Kim Collins (or even better, find a local RS246 member with a VAG-COM) to identify what's causing the problem.
If you want to try to eliminate the problem yourself using the most likely culprit method (not recomended)- here's a starter for 10 based on lowest cost approach;
1. Check all hoses for tightness, especially those around the BPV, intercoolers (£free)
2. clean the MAF with 100% alcohol (£5) - don't drink it
3. replace both BPV's with Bosch 710N (from vagparts) - £17 each
4. replace the TBB with either an audi part (£10) or Samco part - recommended(£40)
5. replace the F-hose (if your car has one) - not sure of a price from Audi.
It gets expensive after this, but a MAF is £200 or thereabouts.
Hope this helps, Nige

Re: miles per tank part 2
Bazza,
I just re-read this thread. When your power beings to 'fall off at around 4800 rpm' is it just subtle?
From my distant memory of when my car was stock, I thought it was more like 5500 rpm when I could feel the acceleration fade.
If there are no DTCs (which is what I expect the tech was checking for) then you have no choice but to go to a specialist like Nige advises.
Also note that VAG-COM does not cost much (assuming you have a laptop) so IMO it's better to own one and do your own simple diagnostic check rather than pay the dealer £95 to do it for you.

Thanks for the feed back guys.
Im going to invest in a vag com i think. i just got the software, all i need is a cable. I also got the Bently publishers S4 manual but it dosnt like to work on my pc for some reason.
Dippy..The power does tail off around 4800 (nearer 5k) and it is very subtle

Re: miles per tank part 2
I have the Bentley manual, but it seems pretty well locked in to a single installation. You have to register on-line before you can use it, and if you try to reinstall it you have to contact Bentley to get your copy unlocked again ! There is a website that hosts the manual, but I am at work so can't post the link at the moment - I'll find it and do it tonight...
Re: miles per tank part 2
Erwin manual
I believe, the Bentley manual is based on this and both look pretty much the same
This is useful too - Audi DTC table

Re: miles per tank part 2
If that link doesn't work (and it doesn't seem to at the moment), send me a PM and I'll burn it on to CD for you. The main difference is that the manual pages are not wrapped in a fancy reader - they are plain old PDF files so you'll just need Adobe Acrobat reader
Re: miles per tank part 2
As Carps points out, the Bentley manual has registration locking software like VAG-COM, so piracy is not an option.
Also the CD they shipped me didn't work so I had to upgrade from their website. I think that's pretty standard procedure for software these days...

Re: miles per tank part 2
Bit late on this one guys, but I haven't reset the DIS for the last 60-odd thousand miles (!) and it's showing 24.7mpg. That's a mixture of about 40% motorway cruising, 40% slightly faster motorway crusing (return journeys - they're always the ones you want to get over and done quickest!), and 20% town driving and, shall we say, more enthusiastic driving.
