I want better seats in my car so a couple of questions if I may:

Are the recaro's fitted as standard in the S3 & S6 (and maybe S8 as well) the same as the ones that were an option on the S4 ?

How do these differ from the recaro's in the RS4 (apart from the badging) ?

Also, I assume they all have the same airbag / heating options as the standard S4 seats and are a simple install. Is that correct ?

Thanks,

David

I seem to remember Dippy doing this as his car didn't have them despite him ordering them or something so he went the aftermarket route with the recaros. I think he has this detailed on a website somewhere
M3 CSL - Silver Grey, a few options.

OK....this gets slightly complicated......

All the Recaro seats in the S3/S4/RS4/S6/RS6/S8 range of cars (97 onwards) are based on the Recaro Style seat. This seat was OEMed by Audi for these cars from Recaro and included Side Airbags (at least in the S4/RS4 version and I assume this is correct for the S3/S6 etc) and heaters and varying levels of lumbar support adjustment. So effectively they are all the same expect......

Audi had Recaro manufacture these seats with fixed sub-frames which are not removable and therefore a S3 Recaro will only fit in an A3/S3, a S4/RS4 will only fit in a B5 A4/S4/RS4 and so on through the range.

A non-Audi Recaro Style can be fitted to virtually any car with the correct sub-frame and can be had in the relevant Audi leather with all the options (Climate Pack etc) expect Side Airbags.

Your option for new Seats are either a 'general' Recaro Style or a OEM Audi Style both of which are available from Recaro Direct in the UK.

The 2nd hand options are limited for a S4 owner....very few B5 S4s where specced with Recaro seats and there aren't that many written off RS4s....You could buy a 2nd hand set of Recaro Styles from Ebay Germany and get the relevant sub-frames.

Cheers

I should also point out that the B5 S4 in Germany had the Recaro interior as standard.....poor relations again

Indeed I did order Recaros on my car but had to fit them myself in the end. There are some photos on my website.

In fact the Recaros interior was NOT standard in German spec S4s. However the front seats could be ordered as a zero cost option, and that's what I did. The problem was that my German dealer cocked up and left the option off the order form for the factory.
