I'm afraid I'm inclined to agree with MushroomMan on balance here. We have become too nannyish and obsessed with safety to the point of strangling our natural instincts. I guess it's the sign of a fat-on-the-vine society that is now two generations away from direct experience of world war, real hardship and do-or-die Dunkirk ethics.

But then - as David rightly says - these sentiments have nothing much to do with the technical question of ESP on or ESP off.

Personally I keep my ESP on except when I'm feeling like really putting my foot down - which I guess defeats the object of the thing!

Haha riz. Is it on just in case you go wildly out of control doing 20 mph in a built up area?

maybe.... but on a serious note.... ive never had the need to switch ESP off as of yet....... maybe im too scared.

Is their a real difference noticable? i.e does it drive the 4WD system differently?

Well I turn the ESP off when I thrash it and I've done 31k from new and have just replaced all 4 tyres for the second time now. Is that pretty normal?

Riz, does this mea that u have 'experienced' the thrill of going around a corner !! No doubt u have done it a few times now and knocked a few mmm off ur tyre treads.
But serioulsy tho, ESP shouldnt be kicking in when going over bumps. mine never does.
There was a time when it would intervene at every moment unitl it got sooo annoying. Turned out to be a faulty sensor. Since then its come on once and that was when it was wet pulling out of a junction.
Mines always left on probably because the screen covers the switch when it flips out so i forget about it. Occasionly i'll switch it off wheni wanna throw my baby's arse around, and yes it is a big ass with lovely curves ! Never the less she knows how to strut her stuff !! Mine very rarely trips the ESP.... only when its wet and very very bad road and bumps....

Also ive had my S3 power sliding a couple of times and the ESP didnt come on but i cant say i noticed as i was to busy controling the 4WD drift

Gettin worried 'bout your S3 Riz. Big mileage on same tyres, ESP never off. Lots of short trips to work and back.

Either get a TDi, or get that ESP off and give it a good hard spanking from time to time

mmmmm dont be worried......... i do use the true potential of my S3 at times... short trips to work and back are a pain as the engine is not fully warm for warp speed mode.

I`ve always thought it was the good tyres which lasted long... had nearly 24,000miles out of the Michelin Pilot Sports on my 206

And Mo i wasnt dreaming when i did the powerslide`s.... my passenger yelled out so i only achieved 1m sidewards drift whilest going around a round-a-bout...
