RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Help.. K&N vs Pipercross vs BMC
Jimbo - my comment was referring to BlueT's original statement that there was an increase of 9g/s - he edited it to 7g/s when I pointed it out ....

Deus ex machina

just to update you am really being messed around by edworthys they dont sound very professional and are very rude. Have just been told that I will now not get the filter till middle of next week. so much for apromised 48hr deliveryGrahamS4 wrote:They are well established, but established with what reputation I don't know.
So did a bit of home work Searched a few blogs and Edworthys have a terrible reputation. It seems the company was once very good but was bought out recently and now their reputation has gone down the drain. It appears that they are happy to take money and then order from suppliers i guess that they actually have very little stock!! some reports say it can take 3 months to get parts so my advice do not use.
As for the filter I checked the BMC website and Eurostyling are the sole uk importer of BMC car filters. Rang them up and yes they supply Edworthys but do very little with them.
I was very relieved to be told that they had my order and would be shipping it to me on Monday. Apparantly Phillw had their last one of the current batch So I guess its sitting in his garage waiting for him to return from Skiing!! . Instead it could have been on my car and results posted

So We'll have to wait for the clean OEM vs BMC match up will post results asap

Well finally have my BMC and have now fitted it, initial reaction from butt dyno was that the car felt a bit stronger. but then being a supreme optimist that was always likeley. If you spend £40 on a air filter you dont want it to be worse.
Now started to do some logs but my kids have been messing about with my laptop and there is so much adware on there that i can bareley get it to function. and couldnt get any data off.
However i did manage to log several runs with the BMCand the best peak MAF reading that I achieved was 267 g/s, 7 g/s down on my previous peak with the OEM filter. However ambient temperatures were lower by about 4-5C for the 274 reading. I was not able to swap back to the OEM to do a same day comparison as the Laptop by this stage ws fooked!!
My feeling is though that with the BMC filter I wont see a greater peak MAF, but it may peak sooner and therefore feel more responsive. The main restriction in the engine is obviouly not the air filter (KO 3 with a remap, no other mods). From a peak MAF point of view I think it will take KO4's to reach the limit of the OEM paper filter.
Working out the Fats from these runs gave an average of 4.55 (2 uphill 2downhill rage 4.2 to 4.9)I have previusly achieved 4.42 with OEM so no real improvement there. This would seem to indicate that there is little benefit in the 4200- 6500 rpm range.
Im sorry not to be able to post actual numbers from VAGcom but if the IT guys sort out my computer i will do some same day comparisons with both over the weekend.
