I was absolutely sure the RS4 box/diff could split 25/75 eitherway vs 66:33 on the S4. Strange, oh well.

I am in the process of getting a couple of washers made up to make the ratio 4:1 on my car (20% to 80%).

I will keep you guys updated.

You just need to replace 2 washers in the front torsen that is in the gearbox.

The early cars its easy to take the torsen to bits as its 2 piece and is held together with screws. The later cars have a 1 pc torsen and pins hold it together.

Both types use different size washers.

There is some info.

Am I right in saying this mod does not affect the fron/trear torque split (which stays 50:50) it just affects the bias the diff can transfer when the wheels on one axle spin ?

I would like to try a car with the mod done for sure but I think the S4 4wd system works very well as standard.

the torque split is what is 2:1 max standard s4 , if a wheel spins torque is sent to the other end. output speeds front and rear are the same though IIRC a while since i read about it

It will be still 50/50 most of the time, but just can transfer more if needed. The current setup will allow up to 66/33.

http://www.midlandbearings.com/INA2007JAN.htm can offer the LS3047 washers for around £8 I'm trying to read through and get my head round exactly whats needed.

Soupie as looking at the diagram is it only the outside washers, ie a washer 2 on top in the diagram and washer 3 on the bottom?

Washer Number 2: Purchase either INA or FAG thrust washer part number LS3047 (4 required).
Nominal Inside Diameter 30 mm
Nominal Outside Diameter 47 mm
Nominal Thickness 3 mm (as purchased)

Rework Outside Diameter 43 mm
Rework Thickness 1.94 mm

Washer Number 3: FNC washer not commercially available. Make from either INA or FAG thrust washer part number LS3047 (1 required).
Nominal Inside Diameter 30 mm
Nominal Outside Diameter 47 mm
Thickness 3 mm

Rework Outside Diameter 42.1 mm
Rework Thickness 1.98 mm

I'm going to try a bit more reading about

cheers
