For v power i pay around 98p per litre. Super unleaded around 95p and standard is around the 91p mark.

This is BP 102. It is meant to be something special:

BP have released their Ultimate 102 Unleaded high-performance petrol onto several testing forecourts in the UK.

The revolutionary high-octane fuel is designed specifically for motor sport enthusiasts and is a dream come true for a tuned engine. It meets the same high spec of fuels used in F1 racing and the World Rally Championships.

It gets its name from its octane number of 102 and was designed to allow highly tuned engines to perform at their best. It also fully complies with BS:EN228 which is the UK specification for unleaded petrol - meaning it can be used legally on the road.

The exclusive fuel is ´hand made´ in small batches at BP´s speciality fuels technology centre in the UK.

BP Ultimate 102 unleaded is currently under trial at 6 sites across the UK, adding another 3 in June. If demand for the fuel is strong, BP will consider making it more widely available. A specialist fuel, the cost is £2.42 a litre but BP are confident that the motor sport enthusiasts this fuel is aimed at will welcome the chance to buy fuel of this type.

Tsk, tsk, tsk!

Never underestimate the power of good advertising for separating otherwise sane people from their money.....

IMO, even if ANY road car was driven to its max by a pro driver on a race track, the difference between 99 and 102 RON fuel is unlikely to produce more than a few tenths of a second difference on a 2 mile course. As stated earlier in the thread, the lower RON fuel with its higher calorific value will, in some circumstances, have the better performance. I find it hard to believe that people are willing to pay almost two and a half times the price for a fuel that MAY give a marginal improvement at best.

The only time it might be worth the difference would be in an engine that is so highly tuned (and high revving) that it would be damaged if it was run on fuel with a lower RON than 102. This pretty much rules out any car that is intended for use on the public highways since the availability of the fuel cannot be guaranteed, so it would have to be detuned or towed until the correct fuel could be obtained.

Sportec tuned my s4 to be at optimal performance with 98ron, it's fine. But if prices are so high (vpower is okay IMO compared to the BP 102!!) we should take some Octane Booster (which is incredible), it can make your fuel +2 to +5 octane ! So with 98 you could come at 100 or even 102, and the price of these octane booster isn't that big.

Hmmm octane boosters, another huge can of worms centralling around huge claims etc. Can something in a tin achieve the same as the large fuel manufacturers blend for a fraction of the cost. A proper test a few years back showed many of these to be nothing more than a lightweight oil. A touch of upper cylinder lubricant but not mch more. The conclusion was that if it does not come in a metal sealed container it's not worth having, something to do with the porosity of plastics not being able to hold the beasty stuff for long enough. Not sure if this is still the case. I have on occasions used Silkolene Pro-Boost in my race bike to stop detonation, now that stuff will knock your head off when you open the cap  . 1.5percent mix is said to give 0.5 to 2 units increase (RON). At £10- a litre it could get a tad expensive.

Agreed Doc.

But you've just got to try some things, tried it, won't be trying again.

Talking of trying: My first track day is coming up.

Got a track day going for Sunday 13th May. Rockingham. Max cost £75. I'd love for a few cars from here to come along to support the S4. Oh yes. the slow porsche will be there, and the S1 hopefully tbc. Also a track prepped 200sx.

Everybody welcome.

The more we have the lower the cost, simply the cost of the track hire divided by the cars!

To boot, if you've got a porsche or can take those tyres, 2nd hand will be available free on the day plus fitting if you let me know what size you are before hand.

I'll post this on the track section also.

Took the car up to see Doug at MRC last week. Quick oil service, aux pump leak, mot and healthcheck.

And the healthcheck revealed: Busted diverter valves, split inlet manifold gaskets, and something to with the throttle housing. All done, all good. Very reasonable on the price, service great, MRC just do what they do, with no fuss or drama. Cheers Doug.

And as for everyone saying, get a healthcheck even if you think you're running tip top, thank you, you were spot on.

The car feels much smoother now, especially when coming off the gas.

And i had 3 light bulbs out, two sides and fog light.
Four new GSD 3's at £80 corner (bracknell tyres). Great tyre so far, feels much more planted.

Alas, i now have a dead battery, anyone got the battery code? (killed it by having the car laid up for 3 wks whilst getting round to taking it up to MRC)

D10DON - see you on the A322! I drive M3 > A322 > Bracknell some evenings.

I also like Rockingham raceway. If I manage to buy a set of decent brakes in the new year I might be able to come along to that. The memory of the terror of the last corner. It raises my heartrate just recalling it....
S4 - no longer missing 1 engine. Last seen leaving trailing black lines of gearbox oil.

Hi Spen,

I've got a business in Reading so i'm over that way sometimes from sunny Surbiton. The 322 is a fine road when it's clear, murder in the crazy hour!

Did you notice my missing rear windscreen wiper that some scag ripped off when i was in Reading taking the staff out on a jolly!!

Be sure to give me a flash (lights only!) when i pass you next time. lol.

Went out for a quick spin yesterday evening as it was a bit damp. A3, Esher, etc.

As i drove through Esher i spotted 2 no RS4, 1 no Bentley GT conv, 2 no Ferrari. There's gold in them there hills!

Passed them all quite comfortably.

p.s: They were all parked up around the high street, presumably frequenting the swanky wine bars.

If you see me out and about now, you'll notice that i have a set of aero bars fitted and a large set of ladders on top too! Cornering isn't quite the same, and the mpg is suffering a bit.

And don't be worrying, they are VERY secure!

Fast and uber practical. What an amazing car!

Indeed you did Nick.

I didn't spy you through your dark windows though! Looked nice, and the grill looks pretty mean in the rear view mirror being all black. ( or did the badges fall off. lol)

Nice to be behind as i haven't heard an S4 from the back before.

Good job i'd taken my ladders off.
