Looking for an S4

Post by Simon » Sun May 07, 2006 6:25 pm

I had an A4 1.8t Sport a few years ago that I sold to buy a Skyline after the GF brought one.

Now she has got bored of the Skyline and wants something with similar performance but a bit more practiality.

so we are looking at S4's and VR4's

what do I need to look out for on the S4 common failure points (suspension arms? Cambelt tensioners - or were they just weak points on the A4?) budget around £10k what will she get for her money?

many thanks

Simon

This comes up a lot.

Try the buyers guide off this site:
http://data.rs246.com/Downloads/AudiS4B ... 9.2004.pdf

and a search on the forum for "DV" and "F hose" should bring up lots of info.

I am still looking for one myself so have no personal info to add, I'm afraid.

I looked at the VR4 before getting the S4. Fuel consumption on the VR4 is terrible - 15 to 18 mpg. I did a quarter tank on a 30 minute test drive. The S4 returns better figures. Both are equally stealthy cars.

I know Top Gear mag had a VR4 on long term test (that'd be about 5 years ago now)...might be a road test reprint available online somewhere.
