i've joined the S4 club......

Post by littleblue » Tue Apr 18, 2006 5:02 pm

well, after a fair bit of searching and some helpfull replies to my early posts, i've finally bought an nogaro blue S4 avant, and thanks to this forum, i bought it from an exisiting member, Nige S4, so some of you will probably know more about the car than me.....

i agreed the deal with nige before going on holiday for 3 weeks, and went down to gloucester from Halifax to collect it on good friday. met up with nige, who i'm sure you all know to be a really nice and helpfull guy, went for a test drive, checked the documentation and paid over the agreed purchase price for a well sorted and cherished car.

drove down to the south coast to see my mum, and for the 140 miles from nige's house to my mums, i couldnt stop grinning. what a fantastic car, much better than the 3.2 v6 TT i own, that is now for sale.....(once i get the private plate transfered over etc)

Nige has spent the last 4 years really sorting the car, so it drives well and handles and stops much better than standard. nige is looking forward to getting stuck in modifying his RS4, but i'm sure i saw a little tear in his eye when i was driving away, even his kids admitted that they think he loves his cars more than them....

drove back to halifax from the south coast on the saturday, but then a small problem occured, the engine was stuttering or juddering when on full boost, but only on full boost, so took it steady on the way home and put a call into nige. i was certain he hadnt sold me a duff car, as it had worked so well the day before. nige called me back and i think he was more upset than me about the car not working 100%, he gave me some instruction to reset the boost settings on the revo 3 chip, which lowered the boost and got rid of alot of the juddering, but at the expense of performance.

nige wanted to know what the boost pressure was and other settings using the vagcom lead etc to isolate the problem and come up with a solution, as its probably a solenoid or the 710 or a split hose thats causing the problem (i hope) but i have taken the decision to book the car into MRC this friday to get the problem fixed, and whilst its there, i'm having the gutted pre cats that nige gave me fitted and a full MRC remap. i decided i may as well get it all done at the same time.

MRC seem to think its a simple problem causing the juddering on full boost, so fingers crossed the car will be better than ever on friday evening on my way back home from MRC....given the work nige has put into the car in the past few years, inc the rs4 intercoolers, high pressure fuel pump, rs4 suspension, apr cat backed exhaust etc etc etc, mrc are hopefull of about 350 bhp with the new downpipes, which, for the time being, will suit me just fine

so the new 18 inch alloy wheels will have to wait a bit longer than planned, whilst the remap gets done sooner than expected.......

i'm a bit upset that my new baby isnt 100%, but i'm sure its not major and i know it will be fixed friday, otherwise i'm a very proud (new) owner and glad to now be a real memebr of the site. :D

Check your plugs. Might be worth trying a set of FD5POR's (S2/RS2 sidefire plugs). Stuttering under full boost,
in my experience, is spark related (i.e. gap too big). You can notice this when the mixture changes slightly (which
can be caused by changes in the weather!).

the weather was virtually the same between friday and saturday, and i was running the same fuel, so i dont think its the weather in this case.

i'll let MRC sort it all out on friday, i'll have to put up with the v6 TT in the mean time......

but i'll report back their findings

littleblue and rjb, welcome to the West Yorkshire branch of RS246.com! Would be good to meet up with you, but also try to get along to one of the official Northern Meets (see Trackdays & Meets section)

littleblue, congratulations on your purchase and I'm sorry to hear about the problems you're having. I've met Nige and I've seen the car (a beauty!) and I know he'll be just as disappointed as you to hear that you're having problems - he certainly won't have sold you a duff car! He's as passionate as the rest of us about our cars, and is also very knowledgeable.

Glad to hear you've got the car booked into MRC - they will definitely sort you out!

nice to meet you harley...

yes the guys at mrc sorted out the car. the poor running when on full boost was being caused by spark plugs failing, so with a new set fitted and a new maf, mrc sorted a custom remap.

car is great now....

just awaiting delivery of the new 18 inch wheels i have just ordered and then need to make a decision on the brakes, either the rs4 b7 set up or the porsche cayenne set up, then the car will be great

Sounds Good!

The new wheels will look nice... Bigger brakes I would imagine will be a necessity now!
