Friday night I finished work and set on my way to my mum and dads gaff. Having just bought a house and having untold figures thrown at me I needed some time on my own to reflect and just have an empty mind. So I decided this weekend was going to be the protection detail for my new ride - luckily my mrs was away at a hen do which made it that much more possible!
So after discussing with a mate what I was going to do last Sunday we tried out some polish and pad combos - not helped by the fact is accidentally ordered all the stuff to my mum and dads so I only had half the stuff there. After deliberation (and Ant saying I should just leave it as there was about 14 coats of glaze and sealant on) we got the pad and polish combo... Which I didn't have so I had to order it!
Friday night plan was to take the wheels off, clean, clay, seal and wax them... Didn't happen - I went to the pub... So started 6:30am Saturday morning doing exactly that! After this the car was washed (there are no pictures of anything prior to correcting as I assume everyone can wash a car now!) with fairy liquid 5 times to make sure the coats were off.
Now, when I bought the car I though it looked ok. It needed some more in depth cleaning but it was ok... When I completely stripped it however, I was fuming! I'd already wrapped the wheels in bags and put them back but so as not to wet them again.
The paint had loads of swirl marks, a few scratches but worst of all was this weird mottled effect paint... It looked like loads of little spots... I can only assume its rain marks etc. there were also buffer trails in the bonnet. The paint was flat, dull - utter <beep> basically... I was a tad annoyed so taped it up ready for work.
5 hours of correcting later with megs ultimate compound I was ready for the finishing wax (again megs). Another hour with a couple of passes on that and it was time for glaze.
I had been working on the car now for going on 10 hours so I went to the pub again. On my return machined the poorboys black hole on and then tucked the car up with the glaze to bond overnight.
Up Sunday morning - glaze off, glaze back on and off again, sealant on and off again x2, windows dressed and sealed while I was waiting for the paint sealant to cure also took all the tape off. Tyre shine added and finally wax x2 and plastics sorted.
The results (caution a lot of reflection shots!):
Started with wheels like this

Forgot to say - I did the arches while the wheel sealant was curing... No after pics but it started like this:

Done...

I'm lucky that the alloys are unkerbed anywhere!!
Taped up after fairy bath.
