Dave's RS6 Looking 'Miles Better' post ring Trip

Post by steve_70 » Sun May 08, 2011 12:13 pm

Afternoon all :bigwave:

So, Dave's RS6 'Sarge' needs no introduction I am sure 8)

I always new this one was going to be somewhat of a mission after the ring trip, but always after a challenge, and Dave certainly scored full marks on that one

I wasn't quite prepared for the horror of quite how much pollen there was and bug-kill was possible to collect on one car

We delayed the detail a little so that we could use the new Deta iling Studio...I mean Double Garage built...You will get my drift when you see the pictures below. It was a million miles away from what I was expecting when Dave said we can work on it on my new garage....I now need to move and get me one of these Double Garage... I mean Det ailing Studio's :thumb:

Products Used

Pre-Wash: Espuma G202 & AB Magifioam
Wash: Auto Finnese Lather Shampoo sample / ONR

On with the Pics :D

The Deta iling Studio aka Garage ...cant describe how jealous I am :D

Plenty of welded on Brake dust from Spirited Ring action and a few hundred miles worth of abuse I am sure too and from germany.

The pollen was everywhere on the interior, seats, consoles, door pockets, it was like somebody had poured flour through the air vents then put the blower on full. There was a green/yellow film everywhere. I empthasise with the cabs

We planned that Engine bay and under bonnet was going to get some love too.

Car was initially given a PW rinse to remove most of the loose stuff

Image

Then APC pre-wash and get in the nooks and crevices with envy detailing brushes to dislodge as much pollen as possible and agitate the bug kill. Certain areas were spot treated with G202 in a trigger bottle and left to dwell to loosen and lift the bugs. After leaving to dwell, when rinsing it was a yellow/green slime that slid of the car.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Foamed with Magifoam and left to dwell, again went round with envy detailing brushes to get the bugs an pollen and grime that still remained.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Rinsed to see where we were with the bug/ pollen battle. We had not won the war yet, so was onto further spot treating of G202 in the roof gutters and in all the shutlines and grillls, vents etc. There was still more green slime bleeding out.

Image

Image

Testing out some Auto Finnese Samples, thanks James :thumb:

Image

Finally we were not turning water green, and water was starting to run clear when rinsing.

With the body wash out the way we could decontaminate. This was Iron X on wheels and body, followed by Tardis.

Image

The wheels were followed up after IronX with Espuma Revolution. Fantastic brush from Rachel at ARC, this is perfect for getting to backs of rims, or where there is really tight caliper clearance, loving this brush.

Onto the Shuts and sills to de-pollen using G202

Onto the Engine Bay

After alll the wet stuff was done, it was time to put it inside to work on, nice and cool also.

First up was to clay, used ONR as the lube.

Tyres dressed with PERL

Image

Forget who gave me the tip on these, but really hand foam brushes on Ebay. They are just perfect for honeycomb grills for applying dressings.

Here is PERL being applied.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Onto the paint enhancement. Took some before shots, but then camera died on me so there is a break in photos until 2nd day. These are all before shots.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Paint was almost Opqaue in effect, seemed very flat and zero paint flake, very muted and opaque reflections.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Festoon MPA 9000 used as a single stage enhancement polish. Used CG Hex Green Pad.

Image

2nd day and pictures resume.

Interior tackled

Espuma Dasheen, Espuma G202, Espuma Fabricare, Espuma Crystal Clean, Espuma Nu-Car odouriser. Dr Leather Liquid Cleaner

Image

Dr Leather Liquid sample for use on leather

Image

For the pre LSP cleaner it was Optimum PoliSeal with Blue 3m pad and MF pads for hand

LSP was Optimum OptiSeal, 2 coats for coverage and then buffed.

Image

So after 2 day mission we ended up with the results :D

Forgot to take pictures, but some chewing gum was embedded in the matts, canme out effortlessly with VP Tar and Glue :thumb:

Dave drove it down the road to find some open space for some better shots and the try and catch the newly found, never seen before flake :D

(The owner was ok with having his plates shown)

Not the greatest couple of flake shots I know, looked better in the flesh as my pictures dont do it justice :(

Epic. I love that Perl stuff. What's the verdict on it?

Cheers Guys.

PERL is a very versatile product, so one item in your detai ling kit does lots of jobs and well. Its water based which has its advantages over some of the other oil based and solvemt based products, so its not sticky, slimy, greasy or gloopy etc. You buy it as a concentrate and use it neat or dilute to the task in hand. As its water based is also its achilles heel as not so durable, but I think on balance the pros of the products outweigh this tbh.

If you want a universal all in one Plastic, Engine, Rubber, Leather dressing then this is the one. It uses the same chemicals 9twice the concentration) as the Aerospace 303 product that has been the defacto product for use on engine bays, and some use on tyres, trim, interior dash etc.

Does the PERL stuff only come in the small size you seem to use or can it be had in litre/5litre trade sort of sizes?

I note you're still not protecting your images with an MB watermark! :bash:
Gone: Audi RS4 Avant, Alpina XD3, Smart Brabus, McLaren 12C,

I buy it direct from the manufacturer now in larger quantities, takes a bit longer and then theres customs and shipping etc, but I can get it in larger sizes that way. I dilute and decant into handy transportable sprayers.

It is available in 500ml, 1l and 5l, although I think it is up to the distributors what they order and stock... I think most only stock the 500ml. It is available in 500ml and 1l eco packs (like a pouch and not a bottle), 5l is hard container.

I can start a thread and if enough interest I can supply some for people in larger sizes if required.

Re watermarks, yes I know :bash: ...was in too much of a rush to put a wtermark in. I can go back and change in PB when have time.

Need to look at how much Photochop is to buy, or an equivalent good program for watermarking and maybe adding a border.

Can you PM your prices for all the sizes of PERL please. I know it depends on the order size, but whatever info you can give would be great.

I might also have an original copy of Adobe somewhere you could borrow; might be a year or two old, but PM me if you're interested.

Good results there, so Dave making use of his new garage, looks immense.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
