A foam applicator pad for putting the wax on, a CLEAN Terry towel for buffing the wax off, constantly turning the towel in the process and two microfibre cloths for setting off the wax with the water as previously described above.

I have loads of waxes and polishes, clay bars etc. but f I want to be quick and not spend all day on the car, I would recommend the following:

1/ Rinse car and wash (just Halfords' own shampoo)
2/ Dry car with squeegee blade and chamois
3/ Apply wax. You can get Meguiars spray wax. Do a panel at a time, let it haze and use a micro-fibre to buff.
4/ Use a finishing towel for that final shine. Note, this is not to buff off with. I use it gently and it really works.

Following that, once the car has got a little dirty, if it rains or if the car has been sat and you want a quick shine before you go out, I can hightly recommend Meguiars Quik Detailer. Basically, you spray it on and wipe off. As long as your car has been recently waxed, it gets rid of the layer of crap/dust and gives your car that just waxed shine.

Hope this helps.

Please, DONT use a squeegee blade ;)

And make sure the car isnt too dirty before use use a QD, or you will be seeing swirls everytime the sun comes out...

I do understand why you shouldn't use them - one of my older motors was attacked by an army of guys with them at a drive through wash and the car received a few scratches!

That said, I use a squeegee blade without an issue, just to get the bulk of the water off. In the right hands, they are fine.

Guys, don't know if you can get hold of OCW over there. It's Optimum Car Cax from the US. It's often the choice for professional detailers here for those "quick" wax and it is an awesome product. TBH, I don't do quickie on my RS4 coz I believe RS4 needs proper weekly pampering but I use OCW on my alloys and it make the next wheel clean sooo damn easy..virtually blast all brake dust without the need for wheel cleaner.

[quote="NumberoftheBeast"] my older motors was attacked by an army of guys with them at a drive through wash and the car received a few scratches! [quote]

My worse fear, when my RS was in for a service in Audi i noticed the army of cleaners in the back cleaning the cars, I had a heart attack and and ask the techs if my car was going to be washed by them, i would never let them withing a yard of the car!...Donuts with sponges and chamois leathers yuk yuk yuk!

Gents one of the best washing methods i find is using the 2 bucket method using 2 lambswool mit's (one for above swage line and one for below), then use a waffle towel to dry it off!

I also use Megg Liquid Gold, good stuff, easy to use etc etc

Yes, the two bucket method is supposed to be the best.

I rate all Megs stuff highly.

No one seems to have mentioned AutoGlym yet.

Easy peasy. A product for everything. Wash, cut if necessary, polish, do the plastic, rubber, glass, hood if you've got one, wheels, engine (with engine cleaner and vinyl food). Whole car. Brilliant.

I would highly recommend 'claying' the car after you have washed it. Very easy to do and removes alot of stuff that you simply cant get off with the wash. It will leave your paint glass smooth and makes waxing much easier and gives deeper shine.

You can even buy the stuff from Halfords - i clay my car 2/3 times a year and im always surprised by the amount of stuff it picks up!

Hmm i hate the stuff, I don't rate it at all, but this was due to a bad experience I had with it!....I had used the glass polish and it just turned into a fine powder and got every where!...however I could have bulled it up, so maybe self error, but that was enough for me not to use it again...Megs all the way...hmmm even Zymol is good but really hard to use and get right!

Ah, yes, I should have mentioned the glass cleaner. Use the thin one not the one like Windowlene.

A tip on glass cleaning a valeter told me is to buy the cheapest hand towel you can get. You know the green ones they have in workshop khazis? Those ones. They are completely untreated and have nothing in them to smear the glass, they just absorb. Big tool shops sell them.
