Hi all,
We would to make this very clear right from the outset.. we cannot promise to help every RS246 member, we have some criteria to be met and also some exclusions. If we cannot help you, we can only apologise. For the majority however, we should be competitive and be able to provide an excellent level of cover.

Welcome to RS246.
Two questions.
Do you do insurance cover for performance mods making resulting in the car being 20bhp over stock.
Secondly, do you do track day insurance?
If the answer is yes and yes, then you may have my interest.
thanks.

Trackday cover is a good point. I think my current insurer charges £50 per day with limitations, i.e. might be 3rd party only.

Hi Sonny,
thanks for the welcome.
We prefer modified cars, although we can provide cover on standard and modified. We have no BHP restrictions, we insure everything from standard run abouts to serious BHP competition cars and everything in between. The only modification we will not cover it Nitrous.
For trackday cover, it is allowed with some of our policies but we find that dedicated trackday insurance providers offer a better level of cover than road risk insurers like us. A company like
http://www.moris.co.uk is a good bet. A lot of road risk insurers offer bolt-on track day cover but often we find they offer a low level of cover with a huge excess and many track restrictions.
Thanks
Ollie

Im sorry but I have just had a quote from these guys and with all the 20% off for being a forum member etc etc off rubbish they are still way to expensive IMO of course. This was for a RS6 2004 standard with a miltek fitted ( which makes no difference apparently) fully comp 350 excess protected no claims etc.
I live in a middle of nowhere, gated drive way with a cow as my nearest visable threat have an imaculate ins history with tons of no claims discount years and one small speeding thing some 4 years ago. My missus is even more angelic than I!! and I am on the wrong side of 40! I would love to say the missus was only 20 but alas shes up there as well
I will be shopping elsewhere im afraid and already the Admiral package is looking a lot better just with 1 car! I also hate being called mate by someone who doesnt even know me! Call me old fashioned but sorry but its a

from me.
Out of interest chaps how much more is a 6 more exp than a 4 nowadays if any anyone? Any other suggestions where someone can quote me happy

or at least sensibly I would appreciate it?

Insurance is strange and always will be. Sky did me a superb quote, if I'm honest it was less than I was expecting, likewise no charge for the Milltek or 3 points speeding (SP50). However, one company is never going to be the cheapest for everyone. Personally I would not consider Admiral as I do not like their history and the cover they offer. I'm old fashioned too in that I want everything in writing just in case (winter wheels and Nav upgrade declared etc) and don't mind paying for a policy underwriten by someone I feel I can trust in case the worst ever happens.

Yep I agree it is a strange animal and one industry I personally cant stand dealing (these and bankers) with but needs must Ian and when they went away to speak to their underwriters ( I felt like I was a hot headed 17 yr old again! They then came back with a quote its actually from a different insurance firm I have never hear of. So in reality they are acting as a broker I suppose. Maybe thats me showing my naivity I should have known that before.

Yeah Sky are a broker and to be honest I wasn't interested until I found out they use Chaucer.
It is mad sometimes I agree - I was expecting to pay £400 to cover my 205 with the no claims now moved onto the Audi, but I got it for £156 including European breakdown cover, underwriten by Royal & Sun Alliance. Was godsmacked!

Thanks for leaving this feedback, my apologies we were unable to help, whilst we are competitive for the majority, we cannot beat every price out there unfortunately. The discount we provide for rs246.com is with our car club scheme underwriters, it doesn't mean we will be 20% cheaper than every insurer unfortunately although in some cases we can be!
With regards to being called 'mate', I absolutely agree with you, I will speak to the team about this.
Please bare us in mind for next year, hopefully we will be more competitive for you then.
Thanks

I insure via Chaucer myself, fantastic company and great for me as they tend to like Japanese imports.

My renewal was due this week;
RS6 Avant 2003, 10k per annum miles, Remap stage one and Coil-overs with Hotchkis ARBs, 39yo bloke, 2 named drivers (one 35, one 65, no points or claims), one claim for me (someone scuffed my car while it was parked and unattended and left no details, hence it goes as a fault claim against me!! Arrgh!), 2 x SP30 fixed penalties in last 5 years (me, stupidly got them in a TDi company car - not the '6!), garaged overnight in a low risk postcode area etc. and I have 10 years protected NCD.
My renewal from Mayfair Online T/A Performance Direct was £767, with £500 excess.
After some shopping around the usual websites I was finding a huge variance between some internet quotes. Direct Line were at £1300, whereas Admiral and Elephant (same company) were at £760 approximately.
On the subject of Elephant / Admiral - a confusing issue was that their own website would not quote for my mods. And calling them directly by phone gave me the answer that they won't cover a mod'd RS6. However if I went through Moneysupermarket.com they quite clearly would cover the mods and gave a relatively competitive quote of £758 with £250 total excess.
These were the cheapest internet quotes, and annoyingly you have to continuously feed your details into most websites to get quotes, which is time consuming.
However Sky insurance have promptly given me what I felt was a clearly better deal at £722 with similar excess (£300). Courtesy car / Protected no claims included etc.
To top all this the phone call to them was easy (a very short wait in a queue) and the very professional advisor there - Kevin - even promised to call me back this afternoon to see if he could help further. Which he did, and it's sorted with very little fuss.
So I must be amongst the ranks of RS246.com members who they can help, and I'm very pleased with the service and the value of package they have put to me.
Thanks!

I can only praise SKY insurance having used them on a number of cars over the last 2 years (MR2’s & Subaru’s etc) and just recently I changed vehicle to the RS6 that they are providing me cover on now. I've always found them to be enthusiastic, approachable, knowledgeable and competitive.
For some I guess they can be seen as a little over friendly when they refer to customers as ‘mate’ but for me I actually find it makes the overall renewal process a little less of a chore.
I’ve yet to experience any difficulty getting hold of anyone, even by name if you know them well enough, and they always honour my requests to return calls should they need to come back to me. They also don’t hide any costs (least they haven’t for me) and offer a very thorough and diligent service with easy to digest documentation.
I’m very happy to see them on here and wish them every success.
