I've got a A6 2.7T has been sitting around for a while in a yard, now managed to get it outside my house was giving it a clean. when I was trying to open the passanger side door it wouldnt unlock, tried holding the door pin up and opening it from inside but lock wont give way. The screws for the door panel are on the sides and can't get to them with door closed. Can anybody help or got tips on how to open the door.

hmmm, call the AA man maybe? I have seen them use a flat tool to pull up the lock on cars before, they access it from the outside, by removing the rubber seal at the bottom of the window. seems like the central locking has somehow disconnected itself from that lock. Does the key not work to open that door?

When I press the central locking button the door pin wants to come up but is seems there is not enough power, charged the battery still no joy. There is no key hole on the pasanger side just drivers side.
Not a member of AA but the car is on axle stands and front end is off too, so I don't think AA will like that it's not like I can go anywhere
cheers

Wouldn't be that the shell has twisted a bit from being on axle stands?

Good call this Yorkie, when I had a Honda Integra Type- R, I had to park once with the passenger side on a verge and the driver side on the road to unload something from the boot - when I tried to close the boot it just wouldn't go, and I couldn't see any reason for it, took me about 20 mins to realise it was that the car had twisted where it was parked and I had to drive off the verge before the boot would close again!
Had me worried for a bit, I can tell you
Matt

all the other doors open fine, also the door pin would come up even if the shell was twisted ?

my a6 2.7t did exactly the same on one of the back doors after sitting for a while. never found how to fix it as when i used it daily the problem disappeared. i guess a dry electrical connection etc. try keeping battery charged and lock/unlock it a lot
i had an old 100 avant whose shell twisted etc when jacked but the locks still always worked. the a6 is a lot stiffer, aven after 130k...
why's the front end off? rs4 engine???

cheers for the info, I have charged the battery and will try unlocking everday to see if it will pop. I did not think it was the twisted shell, ok if the door pin come up and the door would not open then yes I say twisted shell as the problem, but as the door lock does not unlock has to be with the central locking mechanism I think.
Yes rs4 spec going in

nice one, let us know how you get on etc....
i wondered about it, but apathy got the better of me... maybe when the kids are all out of nappies etc
what are you doing with all the old bits? any issues re fitting engine into bay etc? propshaft length etc?

my kids are still in nappies best time they only get more expensive as they get older
at the moment i'm sticking with the running gear take my chance?
The engine will go straight in my A6 is a 2.7T already so in out job with a few mods. I have three engines one s4, one from my a6 (same as the s4 but different engine code) and a rs4 engine.
The one out of the a6 I'am selling, the s4 I'am making rs4 spec and the rs4 is for special little project

that will take a bit of time so putting the s4/rs4 spec engine in for now so can have some fun until my project is ready

i got an a6 2.7t too, any spares going gratefully received. its been ok so far except needed a new cyl head at 95k i think due to crap servicing ie loose bolt on end camshaft

what side head? I have a spare head if your looking at the engine it would be the left side that I have spare
What other bits do you need?

hi, thanks for the offer, i put a new one on 2 years ago, no problems since
spent a lot of time trying to save time by not taking the engine out. not worth it, take it out...
more looking for general spares eg driveshafts, struts, gearbox, electrical stuff to minimise time off road. i've always managed to scrap a simialr car in the past, but this one is so new (!) compared with previous ones, hoping not to, but as the miles creep up...
cheers anyway
