Ticking noise under load - diagnosis.

For the last 5k miles I've had a slight ticking sound with the window open in m. storey car parks etc when picking up revs under load. Not sure whether it is related to turbo or engine speed. I'd suspect the former. No blue smoke or anything yet but on a 135k car I have to wouder how much longer my luck will hold out before the turbo fairy comes knocking.

I am anal about Mobil1 0-40w every 5k miles with filter change. But thinking about it - Yes - I'm sure it's the turbos on the way out. Given that I've just moved into a new house at a higher interest rate.

Anyone else had / heard similar? Say nice things to me.

turbo's dnt tick..mite be a noisey cam follower or even camshaft...there are 4 of them..
has the noise stopped since the new cambelt change of is it still there even after the change..
pinking i doubt..have you had it vag-commed to see if there are any faults that mite make the engine struggle under load...

Hey woody:-)
Performance is still spot on. Planning to take it up for a 6 mth health check at MRC next week which should show any fault codes. Ticking has been completely unaffected by cambelt change.

Would a cam follower or cshaft be a problem or just one of those things you learn to live with.

Could be a blowing exhaust manifold gasket or joint.

Sounds exactly like a CV joint having gone - they then leak the lubricant and tick or click when the wheel is turned (eg in a multi-storey) when turning.
