Warranty Direct issue

Post by njw123 » Mon Feb 13, 2006 5:57 pm

Was surfing for a warranty for my RS4. I went to the Warranty Direct site and got a quote which seemed reasonable considering the wear and tear allowances they give. The quote was emailed to me and right at the bottom in the small print "We do not cover cars with twin-turbo engines"

What a bunch of idiots - having drop down menus and quotes for cars they ultimately don't cover.

On a more important note - anyone here got a Warranty Direct warranty and didn't notice the small print?

Also, apart from Audi, can anyone suggest a decent warranty supplier?

Ah yes warranty renewal. just went throught the same process masel. Had good intentions of shopping around for the best deal and all that :dung: but couldnt be arsed and plumped for the Audi Mondial. From reading threads on this site it seems you can save yersel a few hundred quid but buyer beware - you get what you pay for, and as you know read the small print. Other warranties only give you cover up to 3-5 thousand pounds so if yer engine lets go you will be out of pocket a few thousand pounds. Doesn't really make the saving of a couple of hundrede quid viable IMO.

I had a WD warranty year before last, they defo covered the S4 then - could it be the difference between biturbo & twin turbo? - it does seem odd that the site has all the drop downs for S4 & RS's if they don't cover them - meby worth a quick call?

thought they were the same thing. Unless they have changed their policy since your cover. Insurance cos can do this as and when they please methinks.

They phoned me today as a follow-up to the quote. I mentioned the twin-turbo issue and the guy said "Well, technically speaking we couldn't give cover".

I didn't bother persuing it - after all if you are negotiating with them during a policy start, it doesn't bode well if I were to later make a claim.

I've booked the car into Audi for an inspection and they will quote me for a warranty afterwards. Of course ideally I'd also like to have a backup plan, but, as Harry said, the extra few £100 Audi charge could save me £1000s and ultimately that's what I want with my warranty.

make sure they quote you the right one mate. It goes in engine size. I got quoted too high at first as they geezer at Audi was going by the new RS4 engine size.

I wonder why it didnt occur to him that why would I want to by an extended warranty for a car that hadn't even hit the streets yet never mind expired its original cover. The mind boggles.

Hmmm... that's almost criminal, just looking at my quotation from WD, that I didn't persue in the end. It says:
Model: RS4
Turbo: YES.

I would have hit the roof (and then them) if I'd have taken cover out and tried to make a claim. It's basically bare faced lying. In fact I'm sure what I have in front of me would represent some legal document?

Anyway I've got two years with Listers on my car. It's not modial, someone else's, but they put their name on it, and as they have a very good reputation, especially with RS cars, I think one could do worse. I am so far very impressed with the service, touch wood.
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

Bob, did your email quote have the following small print right at the end -

"The quote you have received, is based on the information you supplied about your vehicle. We are not responsible for inaccurate or incorrect information you may have entered in error. Please verify all information, including but not limited to the correct mileage and checking the appropriate boxes marked 4WD/AWD, turbo/supercharger and/or diesel engine prior to submission. We do not cover vehicles with twin-turbo engines, modified vehicles or vehicles used for commercial purposes."

Of course if they don't wriggle out of paying based on the turbo count, it looks like your RS4's modifications would have let them off anyway... :(

I've had the Audi/Mondial warranty on my RS4 for 2 years and prior to that 3 years on an S4. Never had any problems in getting claims sorted. About a year ago had both turbos replaced without much fuss.

I have had a WD warranty since May last year, after reading the above posts got a bit concerned that twin turbos were not covered. Just spoke with two people at WD who have stated that twin turbos on the RS4 are covered upto a total claim value of £5k.

Hope this helps.

Warranty Direct issue - RESOLVED

Post by njw123 » Tue Feb 14, 2006 12:20 pm

Ok, I just spoke to them again.

Vanessa there was very helpfull. They are removing the "twin turbos not covered" line from future emails etc., and I can confirm that they DO cover the RS4.

:D

It would appear so, Gordon. I've just had my Mondial/Audi book through for my RS4 which is just entering its 6th year. Fortunately I didn't have to pay for it cos at £1347 its a little steep but very pleased I do have it :thumb:

Long story mate, but in brief, they sold me a chipped car as standard and didn't check the gearbox properly. Threw my toys and contacted Audi Customer Services. 1 week later another year's warranty for free :thumb:
It pays to be stroppy
