Hi All.
Looking at buying an RS4 B8 with ceramics.
Not really on my shopping list and the cost of replacement leaves me somewhat cold. Car has 29k on, but 6k replacement for front disks and pads is not something I would even consider.
I'm thinking of buying steel callipers and disks, swapping them out right from the start and selling the ceramics, used as a set.
What do you think a set of used ceramics would sell for?
any other suggestions?
Car is perfect spec for me, bar the brakes...

Why worry re the cost when they are good for 150k miles.MikeBirt wrote:Hi All.

I've bought a few sets of ceramics and they go from anything between 2k and 3.5k if you are very lucky

I was going to ask how long they last for?
150k? That seems like a LONG time
how come you've had a few sets?

They seriously last forever lolMikeBirt wrote:I was going to ask how long they last for?

Ow don't worry i've not had a few sets because of issues I just have a lot of audi's I modify and having
ceramics for me is the best.
I've ran many types of brakes inc some obscene 16 pot 400mm brakes and nothing has been as good as the
factory ceramics.
I think you would be daft to sell them and also lose the advantage when selling the car over ones with non
ceramics

Re: Thinking about swapping out Ceramic Brakes R8 RS4
So you have never had a disk fail?
truthfully?
Anyone else have a view?
I hear that they should be avoided like the plague - cracks around mounting holes, no warranties, some claiming 30,000 miles to 60,000 miles.
Fragile and unpredictable life span.
To move to steel I assume you would need
- new callipers
- new disk
- new master cylinder
- new ecu (abs) map

Re: Thinking about swapping out Ceramic Brakes R8 RS4
Never had one fail ever, BUT I wont lie I don't do loads of miles.
Master cylinder wouldn't need changing, just pads discs and calipers.
Ill buy the ceramics of you if a good price lol

Re: Thinking about swapping out Ceramic Brakes R8 RS4
Ceramics are highly desirable. Never heard of them being avoided like the plague especially on a car with only 29k miles on it (certainly not Audi anyway). I'd be weary about buying a car with 100k plus miles on it with orignal discs but even so, worst case buy a set of steels discs and pads (like you'd need anyway) then just need some calipers. I'd be surprised if there was any other changes required other than a bit of VCDS coding.
I know people who track their cars generally prefer steels due to the cost if damaged but for road use Audi ceramics are well regarded.

I'd be tempted by a swap with cash your way. I have wavey steel setup in black with 28k on. Measured when i bought it in August on 26k at 32.9 mm - so 50% warn. Pads were new when i bought it.
