Titanium Rotors and kerbing...

Hey guys,

Had a quick search of the forum but couldn't find anything...

My B8 RS4 was delivered a few weeks back and I'm really happy with it, looks awesome and drives...well...words don't exist.

I've had a few incidents in car parks and with kerbs and although I've been super careful have ended up with some scratches and some smallish gouges. I wanted to know - is kerbing / having scratches on the 20 inch rotors just a fact of life? I have the titanium ones, is it possible to get these refurbished?

Does this sort of damage affect resale, if so should I be considering replacing the damaged ones when (if!) I come to sell?

Hi Rich

I've got a B8 RS4 which I've had since June 2013, fitted with the 20" V alloys, again with diamond cut faces. I think if you use the car as a daily drive, which I do, kerbing is almost inevitable no matter how cautious you are (multi-storey car parks being particularly evil).

The good news is that they can be repaired, but you need to find a very trustworthy and reputable wheel re-conditioner who knows his stuff. I am not sure where you are based, but there are a few around now who will be able to sort them. Normally they will say that diamond cut wheel finishes have a limit to how many times they can be repaired, as essentially a lathe is used to cut a thin layer off the top surface of the wheel. I've been told that normally a number of treatments, more than 2, can be performed.

You will normally be looking at around £90 to £100 per wheel.

Lepsons in Kent and Wheel Works in Crawley are two of the best that I know of (and I know dealers/specialists use as well). Have a look at their websites.

In fact I really don't like the diamond cut finish on my V spokes, maybe the novelty has worn off, and all of mine need a refinish now, so I may go for a different painted finish for a change.

Agreed, multi stories with tight corners and very high kerbs are the killer! I've lightly grazed my titanium alloys (B7 RS4 but same colour code L8AU I believe). I'm just about to have them refurbed, but it's highly invevitable that it'll happen again. You don't need to replace the wheel itself unless you cause irreparable damage. Kerbing can be rectified by a refurb. Just make sure they use the collect Audi colour code.

Phew! Kent and Crawley are both reasonably local, nice to know this isn't the end of the world! My plan was to let them get kerbed and then refurb when I come to sell because rather than get them done because seeing them makes me sad!

It's those b******d little kerbs on the ramps in carparks that separate the walkway from the road that get me! If find the person that designed them...
