On the same note. Does anyone have any experience of a guy named Ernaudio from Lithuania selling upgraded sat nav discs on ebay ?

If you are trying to update the RNS-e firmware then this is automatically done when you first insert a Navigation DVD with later firmware - it only takes a couple of minutes. If you just want later mapping then these are held on the actual Navigational DVD too, so just buy the lastest one available.

To be honest I don't know what you mean by firmware ! I'm afraid I'm a bit old and thick when it comes to computer terminology.
Basically I just want to update the sat nav since I assume that what's in the car is circa 2007. The guy on ebay is selling this.

Audi Navigation plus (RNS-E) DVD Sat Nav Disc - Version 2012 West A3 A4 A6 TT For £39.99.

What do you think ? Is that what I need ?

Thanks for your help. Stan.

Hi Stan,

If you go to your car and switch the ignition on, press the Car button on the Nav device and it will take you to another screen, use the large rotary dial to select the only option and it will then display a few bits of information. The top line will be your firmware version, at a guess it will probably be 0460 if using the original 2006/2007 DVD.

Firmware is just Audi's coding which makes the device work. Updating firmware is a bit like updating Windows on your PC, there will be a few bug fixes and perhaps some minor tweaks/improvements to features. If you are running the 0460 or older firmware then buying a 2010 or later Navigation DVD disc will include the latest 0650 firmware.

The things I noticed when updating the firmware were:
  • Multiple stop overs can be programmed in
    TMC reports and timer options
Another voice guidance option - off (phone)
    Petrol Station Logos
About half a dozen more POI added to map contents
    Clearer fonts
Maps have a bit more detail - non council adopted roads displayed, wooded areas in green & smaller rivers displayed
Minor roads are kept displayed one step of magnification further out.
    Updated road maps
The item you're looking at sounds perfectly fine. All I'll say is that if possible stick to a genuine disc as there are a lot of copies out there which could be problematic.

This is a 2013 two DVD set for a little more - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-RNS-E-na ... 19fae9115b

I paid £162 from Audi for the above set a couple of years ago, so its good value.

Hope that helps.
Sam
