Right, quick update! Firstly thanks for all of your comments and support. Good news is the car is back on the road! Spend 6 weeks with kim Collins at qst but have everything sorted....... Apart from the gearbox!
Cost me £3300 to put things right and wAiting for £1k refund from garage that sold it.
Drove from haywards Heath to ashford and car did not miss a beat, kim has cranked the turbos right down due to possible gearbox fault but still really quick! Error message is torque converter, been advised that new gearbox is required - any thoughts?
Love the car, cost me a fortune already but hey it's a saloon rs6 with 45k and full Audi service history ( although from comments above this may not ne a plus). Has had gearbox 6k miles ago and new turbos and alternator in late 2007, is this normal?
Also have reciepts from Glasgow Audi totaling £14k and a further £2k on kw3 coilover kit. Bodywork mint but if warranty does not cover gearbox I will be in it for £20k plus!

Any thoughts on gearbox would be great - grizz heard you are the man and will make the journey up north if necessary!

Thanks again all

martyn aka marv

ps I have been told the car it too butch to be a girl it's temptemental, expensive and other men stare at it so I think it may be a she! ( oh and an absolute money pit) :-)

Hello mate, sorry to hear of your woes. Am I right in thinking you actually paid for some of the repairs yourself? If so you may have made a costly error as you had every reason to expect either:

a) a fully repaired car at their cost and inspected by a third party of your choice,
or
b) your money back as the contract of sale is void as the goods are not fit for purpose.

This assumes the car was sold with none of these problems disclosed. You can attempt to claim your costs off the dealer retrospectively but to do this you need to have followed a set legal procedure documenting the circumstances, your dissatisfaction and how the dealer should put things right. They must have been given at least two weeks to respond to your letter and if they don't then spend £500 on legal services and a legal letter of intent to prosecute. Trust me, I've been there and saved myself £5k.

YOU SHOULD NOT PAY A PENNY!...but it sounds like you already have...

Thanks all, I know I should have just taken the car back for a full refund and cut my losses....... But I did manage to get a small contribution out of the dealer and if I am honest I am kinda smitten with the car. Think it's going to be a labour of love although hope the warranty covers torque converter/gearbox issue.
Apart from the box the car is MINT, avus silver black leather piped with silver (guess everyone knows how nice a place to be the drivers seat is). Car probably owes me £14k as got it for a fair price, warranty single claim
Limit is £3k so if it is torque converter it should cover but if not I guess a new gearbox is £5k fitted.
I thought I was going in to this well researched (had new shocks, gearbox replaced 6k ago and full Audi history 45k miles) but so much more expensive than I thought - oh well I am a big boy and promise I will have this car as perfect as a 7 year old car can be!
If anyone is in the south east with an RS would love to compare mine with her current "issues" with a sorted beast!

as it could have been and the dealer could have just charged the battery ?
Pretty sure the alternator will pull the voltage up to around 14v, even at idle; anything below that (including fully charged battery @ 12-13v) and the battery warning light will come on.

Sounds like the alternator was the last of marv8's worries though - commiserations and hope you got it sorted.

I'd be back to the garage with the car to deliver the keys and request a full refund!

Sorry to hear that you have had all this issue because of a BS Saleman/company Marv, I'm Glad to hear that you have managed to get most of the issues sorted with it.

Sorry all, have been in the c5 forum and had not checked for responses for ages!
Yes I did spend money on the car, I know I am a mug and should have taken the car straight back to the dealer! Ended up with a full gearbox rebuild with 3k coming from warranty company, done about 800 miles since and developed a lumpy change from 3rd to 4th up only. Car back to garage and apparently it's the solenoid/s? Expect to have it back for the weekend and fingers crossed it will be pretty much there.
Hate to jinx it but VAG diagnostics have been clear and fault free.....
Love the car and kind of hate it a bit too, every time I hear that "ding" I sh*t myself thinking its going to be another problem. Thankfully it has just been petrol warnings of late, averaging 18mpg including motorway runs but have been enjoying myself!

Assuming gearbox is sorted going to look at some mods, to be honest Amanda on the c5 forum has pretty much ticked the boxes with her upgrades (Loba turbos, wagners, viper map etc etc) but early days for me yet.

Thanks for all the advice, should have listened to you guys more and should have bought a forum members car but have always gone in two footed and paid the price afterwards!

Loving the forum though, great bunch all round but especially the c5 RS lot. Hopefully will be able to get along to some meets in due course would love to see a bunch of RS's in one place!

Thanks again all and sorry for taking so long to update.
