Insurance for RS4
Re: Insurance for RS4
bit of a generalism realy, probably pointed at whoever is reading at the time.
Re: Insurance for RS4
I pay £520 with Tesco for my S4. 32 years old full NC for 10+years No points in the last 5 years.
I live by SRBROON in Abderdeenshire.
Tesco were hundreds cheaper than numerous others. My mate alos took out a policy with them for his Fiate Coupe as he found the same.

Re: Insurance for RS4
I insure my S4 through What Car Insurance as the company is are mod friendly.
But you're right about Tesco. It costs me £320 for my Audi 1.8T - that includes protected NCB, business use for my wife who is the main user and legal protection too. Mind you I take £1000 excess which shaves loads off. Most of the other insurers I've tried will only allow you to take a £500 excess.
Not sure how mod friendly Tesco Insurance is though - anyone insuring though this comapny with mods?

Re: Insurance for RS4
yikes! thats alot..... i think mine is something around £450, considering im 22 im happy with that £1000 excess

Re: Insurance for RS4
Tesco don't seem to mind mild mods (as long as you tell em), but you have to bear in mind that they don't give courtesey cars or and life or pesonal accident cover in their policies.
Re: Insurance for RS4
Good point Jon, I didn't realise that.
I should also have said I have a £500 excess.

Remember that I asked for this level of excess as I want to get the monthyly premiums as low as possible. I spent all morning ringing 'round to get the best quote last month. No one could provide cover for what is still classified as a "hot hatch" for anything near what I'm paying.
If I have a scrape or more likely, if my good lady has a scrape I would probably have the repair done myself.
But I have to say that £450 is fantastic for a 22 year old insuring an S3. Who are you insured with?
Re: Insurance for RS4
I've just renewed my insurance and it was about £1500. I've protected the NCD, but my excess is only £200. That means for the first time in years I can afford to make a claim!
If you have a huge excess, then surely there's no point protecting the NCD as for a lot of accidents it will be cheaper not to claim anyway?
I must admit that for the last 2 years when I wasn't allowed to protect my NCD, I still had a £200 excess! Since I couldn't afford to make a claim (like when I hit that deer...), I should have taken on a £1K excess too!
DOH!

Re: Insurance for RS4
Firstly not all insurance companies allow you to take a £1000 excess. Royal and Sun alliance don't so the excess on my S4 is £500.
Tesco do so I went for the £1000 on the A3T.
I can see your logic Dave, but sadly in the case of an accident the planning tends to go out of the window. Protected no claims is important as it allows you to make ONE claim without losing your valuable No Claims Discount. I want to be sure that the claim I make is worth making (significant damage) I am never going to claim for a scrape because A) I don't want to waste the protected NCB "life" and B) because I can probably get it repaired myself for less that a low excess, say £200. Examples are, full bonnet respray £120, new wing and spraying in £200 or much less if you get one from a breakers and fit it yourself like I did for the passenger door on the A3 (cost £80 - luckily I found one to match the colour of the car ).
So for me it makes good sense to get the premium as low as possible and worry abut the scrapes if and when they occur

But I have to say that £450 is fantastic for a 22 year old insuring an S3. Who are you insured with?
Policy excess = £350
Young driver = £250
Total excess = £600 (sorry it wasnt £450 afterall )
Insurance premium = £1720 with zero NCD!
Still think ive done ok for my age, they did take into consideration that ive got many years of company driving behind me!

Normally insurnace companies gve NCD which correspods to the years a company car has been driven upon receipt of a letter for the company who provided the company car.
What happened in your case Riz?
Re: Insurance for RS4
What happened in your case Riz?
Well it does make me angry at times....... here`s what happened when i called around for quotes...
Insurance co1 = sorry sir your too young for that car, we will refer you to Ins co2.
Insurance co2 = yes sir we can do that for you £4000approx and due to your age we wont accept company car history!
Insurance co3 = we will insure you for £2000 but wont accept company car history
Insurance co4 = £2000 and must have tracker, and we dont accept company car history!
It seems unfair
Im with egg at the moment and amd going to stick with them until ive got 1years NCD, then have aword with Jon already plan to get his advice more nearer to the time.
p.s. the car is totally standard too.

Re: Insurance for RS4
I pay $3200 per yer AUD. So thats around 1000quid
My excess is $450, so thats like 150quid
Insurance in Australia seems to be faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar cheaper than in the UK!
Thats for a 22yo in a S3, insured for a replacement NEW car.

Re: Insurance for RS4
It is a bitch trying to insure high performance cars in the UK for people who are enjoying life in their early 20's.
Think you're right Riz - get a year under your belt which suggests that you're not going to bend it around a tree and see what the premiums come down to. And in a few years time you'll be over 25 and have 4 years NCD so you should be laughing.
Another option is to get yourself a banger. Take out insurance and get the insurance company to recognise your company car history against that car. In 12 months you should have a good few years no claims which you'll be able to transfer to your S3.
Just a thought
And S8N - only a grand for a 22 year old driving an S3 - its a devil of a life in Oz, isn't it
