I've not driven a B8 but have a B7. The 2 cars are clearly different. The RS3 is turbo charged so power delivery is very different to the big V8. Sound is very different too. From factory I think the RS3 sounds much better. The B8 defo needs an aftermarket exhaust to bring out the best noise. RS3 is much more tunable if that is your thing, it is not difficult to make it very quick and leave the B8 standing.
I assume the gearboxes are similar if not the same in the 2 cars.
Standard I think the RS3 is quicker to about 50 or so but then the B8 will take it.
Handling wise the B8 is more my style with the Torsen quattro and it's rear wheel bias whereas the 3 with its Haldex is 100% front wheel drive until it loses grip. Some decent tyres up front will massively help I think, I had it understeering in the wet while at speeds I wouldn't even be concentrating at normally in the 4.
But it is quite chuckable and feels relatively light. I think the rs3 weighs about the same as the B7. I assume the B8 is heavier.

Great reply Mike,
Realistically I can't see me moving out this B8 for a while as I've said before it just does it so bloody well in all situations. It's planted feel and grip brings dangerous confidence if you try the same in another car, the looks, the sound (may change exhaust, have factory sports exh but not sure if there is a crackle map?) and it hauls all I need too. A sepang roof box is another thought for those big family trips. Yeah, why would we change, values will only go north over time!

Perhaps biased as I own one ;) but the RS3 is an awesome machine. Fast as standard and sounds arguably the best RS this side of a V10. Easily tunable as stated above and for a few £k you can be at 450hp / 500 ft.

TX.

The real question is....

Are you a V8 fan or a Turbo fan!

Totally different to drive! Iv'e had both and I love the sound of the V8s, but then love the aggressive on boost feeling!

Currently got a B7 RS4 and have considered the RS3 and am still contemplating!

Haha, yes true words... had the S4 and enjoyed the boost on tap but with the V8 there is no replacement with another engine of a lesser size and makeup that provides the same. Going to stick with mine as it's been away from me since Thursday and I miss it terribly!
