I have the same issue with my new-to-me 75k Kms '07 B7 RS4. I'd hoped the culprit was the line between the master and slave cylinder (which was a known weak point and upgraded by Audi later on in the production run). I'm going to buy a lightweight flywheel + clutch from JHM to replace my worn FW and clutch. I hope this won't negatively impact the drivability of my daily driver... though I am quite looking forward to reducing the weight/momentum of the stock DMFW!
Most forum posts indicate there's some "chatter" under 2k rpms, though the Stage 3 LWFW is the least "racy" of all options. *fingers crossed this solves the issue*

Good luck to you worldrider. Let us know how it goes.

I have mine booked in for a diagnosis and replacement of required parts next week. I will report all findings. I am having stock stuff put in as I'll probably have a new car before my car hits another 70,000miles and lets be fair, the stock stuff works pretty well really. Unfortunately in the meantime I have had a shock blow and now a wheel bearing so I'm going through one of those expensive stages at the moment! Grrr...

I have an update after having just inspected my car up on the lift with no gear box in it.
There are a few things that we think may be causing the sticky clutch issue.

1. The guide sleeve is not moving freely and does actually have a slight friction feeling at one point about half way along its movement. Although probably not the complete cause, I am told that when the parts are hot, it is possible that the friction feeling could be much worse.

2. The DMF has the same movement as demonstrated in the YouTube clip that I post a few days ago ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUgIJyeY9Xs ). Movement should be much less. The DMF also had very slight waggle movement. These tiny movements can be very much accentuated further up the system so I am told.

3. The clutch friction plate is worn to the end of it's grooves. It has some life left but no point in not changing it.

4. The SAC plate springs are at the limit of their extension.

I think that's all. I will report back on the success of this repair. If it isn't cured after this I will cry and then consider a high building.

And finally...Problem Solved! My car is a pleasure to drive again after months of trying to discover the real cause behind this common problem. It wasn't cheap but I reckon it could have been worse.

Work done included -

"Remove Gearbox -
Inspect the clutch friction plate, confirm friction lining worn close to rivets.
Inspect the clutch pressure plate, self adjusting mechanism is on it's limit, confirm clutch worn out.
Check operation of clutch release bearing, confirm a resistance when operating, recommend release bearing and guide sleeve replaced.
Check dual mass flywheel, confirm too much free movement / weak resistance, recommend DMF replaced.

Replace DMF, Clutch pressure plate and friction lining and release bearing and sleeve."

Total Cost came to just under £2000!

Well done, glad to hear you're car is on top form once again and that's not a bad price at all.
Can we have some photos of your RS4 please.
