Screen wash leak

Post by RobRS4 » Sat Jan 24, 2015 7:30 pm

I've got a 07 plate RS4 Avant. It's my dream car, I've had it about 6 months and am loving it.

Driving home on Friday night, my screen wash light came on. Not surprising given the weather lately. I went to halfords and bought 5 litres of ready to use S/W.

As I filled it up (having put about three litres in), to my surprise and disappointment, I was standing in a big pool of screen wash. It had gone into the filler cap and gushed straight out the bottom.

I have recently had both aux radiators replaced and the wondered if there had been some damage caused by that?

I will have to take it in next week, but not looking forward to paying for it. Anyone have any ideas what could have gone wrong or how easy it will be to replace?

Hi
I had similar issue on mine when I bought it couple of months back - reservoir was emptying after 4/5 screen washes. In my case the pump was leaking and dumping a lot of the screen wash on the road.

Reservoir and pump are under the passenger side wing in front of the wheel. The pump is a push fit into bottom of reservoir, if you are getting wash pouring out onto road as you fill then I would guess pump is not seated correctly. pretty easy to access - jack up and remove wheel, remove wheel liner (lots of fixings) and you will see reservoir and pump on left side of arch.

Could also be the O ring in the T junction just behind the two fins in the bumper in front of the wheel. See if you can have a look through the fin gap. It's the pint where the hoses for the headlamp washers connect to a small black bottle (possibly the bit that Paul mentioned?).

Thanks very much for the replies. In the end, it was a pretty easy fix.

The clip on the hose running out of the resevoir had failed- got a new clip off a TT RS that was being scrapped.

Back in the game!!
