SATNAV PLUS PROBLEMS

Post by codsallboy » Sat Dec 27, 2014 12:26 pm

Hi All,
my first visit to RS246 and just hoping you guys can help ?
I've recently bought a 2003 RS6 Avant with 'Sat Nav Plus". Radio works fine. Sat Nav thinks i'm outside national road network & keeps coming up
with the screen words, "replace or clean disk". Tried another disk, no better. Replaced gps areal with non original that sits on top of glove box as suggested by many on net. No results and radio reception poor so reverted to original. New O.E. GPS base very expensive if it's not the solution. Cheaper O.E. option is to replace GPS amplifier first. Can someone please tell me where amplifier is located on the RS6 Avant ? Is there a way to test amplifier & or GPS base ?

Have you tried playing a normal music CD with it instead, to see if the Laser is at fault? Use a proper genuine CD and not a ripped copy of one.

Thanks for that. Just tried normal proper CD in slot on top of screen and screen reads "wrong disk, please insert Travel Pilot DX". (CD's are normally played through the standard 6 stack system in left rear of car. I welcome any other ideas ?

Odd???

Any chance you could take a photo of the unit and then post it, along with what you've said here, into a new post on the C5 RS6 section. Hopefully the knowledgeable members there will try and get to the bottom of this for you.

Not really, a 2003 RS6 will have an RNS-D not an RNS-E (which wasn't introduced until 2004).

The RNS-D uses Bosch Travelpilot DX map CDs (not DVDs) and the internal drive is for map CDs only - as codsallboy says music CDs have to be played in the external CD changer.

On C5 A6/S6/RS6 the GPS antenna is a known problem, so that's more than likely the problem here.
