Hi
Was wondering what engine oil people use in their 6's ? Any particular brands that people are happy with ?
Have been looking around and thought the Shell Helix 5w40 looked a good option ....

Cheers

Helix is good. Any synthetic 5 - 30 or 40 will do the job. I have been using mobil 1 in mine for the last 3 changes. Its only £28 a carton from costco and I change the oil every 2500 miles...... still gold when I drop the oil out but it helps to keeps the engine gremlins at bay..... :drink:

It's not just about viscosity. You need an oil that meets VW505.01 or if you can't find that VW504.00.

Source: Quattro Gmbh. I emailed and asked them.

Sounds quite a good price - Is that for a 4 or 5 litre container ?
An oil change every 2.5k -? Nice one :beerchug:

Understood - Is this something that can be found out easily ? I guess it's not on the generic Shell,Mobil,Fuchs packaging that'd I would buy off the shelf ; Would only a main dealer (and therefore their chosen brand) be able to tell you ?

No, it should be on the packaging. Just have a look at the manufacturer's website or on the bottle. I have never had difficulty finding VW505.01.

OK cool - I'll take a look. Maybe there's an approved Fuchs or similar out there at a good price

Keep an eye on TPS they do special deals on oil quite often, I bought 20 litres of Quantum Platinum the end of last year for £40. :)

Griz lobs the Quantum stuff in, made by Castrol I believe for Audi/VAG. Never needs topping in between. Not sure what grade it is, will have to check.

Yeah, had a look at TPS ; All I could find was a Quantum oil that was intended for long life application.
Will keep an eye out though
Cheers

Thanks Amar
FWIW, I'd have thought that if the oil didn't need topping up, it would be because the car isn't using any (rather than because of the brand/grade etc.) ??
