'Major' Service Cost

Just had a quote of £886.00

from Audi main dealers to do a 'major' 20k service on my RS6.
I knew these things weren't cheap to run when I bought it, but seriously, how can they charge so much. Must be down to their labour rates I guess.
Think the last service they did was around £400.00 ish which was fine for the convenience of the main dealer being close to home.
Thinking a trip up 'North' to Unit 20 is on the cards... but will I be able to resist the opportunity to 'enquire' about a Miltek

?
Also, I'm almost up to 60k now, and with no record of the alternator being changed, would it be sensible to get a new one fitted at the same time as the service as a belt-n-braces approach, or do I just take the risk and wait for it to fail...

Give MRC and Unit 20 a ring - either will be about 3/3 that number at a guess, and MRC is a lot closer to you.
I wouldn't bother with preventative change on the alternator - mine did 120K+ miles and only died when I immersed it in water!!
When was the cambelt done - if it hasn't been done yet then it certainly needs it.

Cambelt done by previous owner about 2 years ago, just before I bought it.
Think it was around the 40k milage mark.
Was keen to ensure this was done when viewing potential purchases after doing my 'research' on here.
Will find out how far MRC is. Think Unit20 is going to be about a 300mile round-trip...but probably worth it.
Rule 42 ?
Thou shalt not worry about standard servicing costs when the gearbox could potentially destroy itself with no provocation?
Millteks are an enforced upgrade if you wish to continue using this forum?

Rule 42: Everything on an Audi RS6 costs £1000, so count yourself lucky

That's not rule 42. May rule meister bam_bam unleash his terrible wrath upon you.

What the fuck is going on in here?!!? There is only one rule 42, I don't make the rules, I just enforce them.

agreed, in four years of ownership i think i can only recall once coming out a garage with a bill of less than a thousand pounds - and then was when i bought the part to do it myself!
