I've owned my RS6 for just over a year now, but rightly or wrongly so, I've missed the M3 that I had a few years ago. So last week I bought an E46 M3 and as I'm only allowed to keep one, wil have to decide which one to part with in the next few weeks. Should be an interesting couple of weeks but a few early surprises have already arisen.

Firstly, after a year of daily RS6 usage, I was shocked to feel how slow the M3 feels in comparison although of course it's still quick.
The M3 has Harmon Kardon stereo with a sub in the back but is still not as good as the Audi's Bose.

On the flip side, the M3 is averaging 28mpg compared to 19 from the Audi on my work route. That will be a massive saving each year.
Also the M3 is so much more comfortable and compliant on our poor quality roads than the Audi on Bilsteins.

So far it's two points each!

My wife, however, is impressed that new front pads and discs on the M3 are only a third of the cost of RS6 parts.

I've got an idea which was this is gonna go so........................if anyone's got any good reasons why I must keep both, let me know

Bro was in same situation a few months back... With the gearbox being so <beep> in the 6, i would do m3 all the way... If u want that extra power get a supercharger on it and youve got 500 horses...
Also the manual m3s are fun but smgs are nice to drive... Manual on the other hand has to be drive in sport mode...

Completely different cars, so not really a comparison, both have their good points.

I'd keep both as they would complement each other well.

Winter weather might help, although there's enough rain around to tighten the bottom muscles in the M3

Reason 1.your a man and you wear the trousers so tell her that.
Reason 2.you will have a rs6 and a m3 on your drive..simples

Great combo of cars, there are about 5 members on here who are running both an RS6 & M3. I'm on the lookout for an M3 myself too, looking forward to owning a BMW again, will be keeping the plus, both do their own thang very well.

I own both a c5 RS 6 avant and ghay hairdressers e46 m3 manual coupe .... I love both as they are totally different cars and cannot be compared chalk and cheese Keep both and tell your wife to bugger off and leave you alone with your cars or better still as bam would say send her back to the kitchen and lock her in

I just don't understand how the OP's wife can see either the M3 or the RS6 from her place inside the kitchen. Which means, she was out of the kitchen. If I found her outside of the kitchen gawking at my cars, I'd be warming up my pimp hand. Whatever happened next, she best be making me sandwich or else it'd be happening all over again.
In all seriousness, an RS6 as daily driver is a little silly and I could see why the M3 would pique interest. You will miss the power though...

Yep... There really is no comparison. They are both very different beasts. I love driving a manual transmission again and the BMW seems to fit better, after all the RS6 is a very big car. As an everyday car the M3 works better.
Heart says one thing and head says another.
I can't justify two cars but will probably put off the decision long enough to take the RS6 to Le Mans one last time.

i have both, and to be fair, everyone has covered all the bases.

i find it very hard to choose the m3 over the rs6, other than when i want a full on spirited drive, fuel eccomny is the other reason but to be fair it shouldnt cross your mind if you own both these cars as you would need you head examining.

i think a normal diesel estate and an m3 would be a better in my opinion.

as im still currently toying with the idea of selling the m3, selling the 6, and buying a boring diesel for the day and a silly car for the weekends when its every nice. i.e 500hp per tonne +

I have both myself convertible E46 M3 , like most people say they are completely different cars, if you can afford both then i would keep both, daily run around the M3 is going to be far cheaper long run (hope you got the frame round the diff checked out?) but for pure power and fun you need the Audi, difficult choice... you could always keep both and get rid of the wife

have to agree with all had two M46 M3's manual and SMG and they make great daily drivers for power and fuel economy, but for the grin factor my RS6 is very hard to beat.

Now that the M3's have gone I am working on my next project converting my MGB Roadster to V8 power using a scrap genuine BGT V8 with all good engine and running gear, just as well I drive my diesel Fiesta as my daily car.

well the decission is yours but if your RS6 is an Avant just think about the load lugging space, thats what I told my wife when we got it.
