RNS-E or replacement unit

Hi all
I have read all (i think) threads on the possible change from RNS-D to RNS-E and/or replacement head units (both those that look OEM and those that don't).
I think i'm at the point where i want to go ahead and change the unit (the CD changer is ok-ish, the sat nav works, but is dated, i hate not having bluetooth and i don't want a parrott atatched to the dash etc etc).
Just a question for clarity: If i go down the replacement RNS-E route to give me bluetooth, later sat-nav etc, i assume i need both the i-drive style twiddly switches in the centre console (which my car doesnt have) and a multi-funtion steering wheel (which my car doesnt have)?
If yes, then it seems that to try and put late model Audi head unit / sat nave etc with MMI high is more hassle than it is worth.
So, there was some debate a while back on the Clarion NX501E hjead unit and some others, particularly one that retains an OEM look while being after-market (can't remember the name). Does anyone have any further updates as to the performance of these units.
For reference, my 2007 Q7 has an MMI module that is great. we updated the software last year and put a current dic into the sat nav DVD drive and it works brilliantly. If i could get this in my 2005 RS6, i would be over the moon, although i suspect the lack of multifunction steering wheel and centre console etc would probably make this less nice to use?
What are your thoughts?
(Thanks in advance for helping to guide a confused but enthusiastic new RS6 owner)
