It might be worth changing the oil and filter in the gearbox first, ive just had mine done along with some other work(still on going,ABS )the oil that came out of my box was pretty shot and thick considering there sealed for life according to Audi,i think the guy that looks after mine said with oil cooler its 11 litres,he got 9 and a half litres back in,that was back flushing the cooler to get as much out as possible, its made a hell of a difference,i thought mine was pretty smooth,it is now..might be worth a shot before ripping gearbox out.. :blackrs4:

Is the car chucking up any fault codes? Could be a number of things (low ATF at best, TC fooked at worst).
If you do have the box out and repaired/replaced do you research on the company doing the work first. It is a big job and a PITA, after mine coming out twice my local indie can now do it with the engine in situ however he would never qoute a job in case the turbo nuts shear (or similar).
If you do have an ATF flush/change have a look at the old ATF and what colour it is, also have a look at the magnets in the pan and see if there is swarf in there.

Good luck mate

Secondhand box is false economy, these boxes have a reputation for going bad. I would only consider a very low mileage second hand box or one with at least a 24 month warranty, but your better off getting a refurb. Do it cheap, and it will cost you twice.

You could try suffolk transmissions, they done my allroad c5 one, and that was very good!

I think I heard someone say that some main dealers took their gearboxes there to be rebuilt. They're only a small outfit, but you do get good service!

+1 if not going balls-out and getting the thing totally custom built ;). If Bam or Amanda don't do it first then subject to finances later this year I might be putting all my trust in to random people to build me something great as I hate my box :P

Welcome to our world fella! ;)

AFAIK, TSR performance was/is Tim Stiles Racing .... Don't know if it's the same company, but if so, they've been on the tuning scene a good while (used to do 2.0l and VR6 conversions on mk2 golfs etc. ) VW Audi was always their thing

How many have they done .. £1850 is mega cheap as you need to spend 20 hour labour .. With oils and gaskets its £about £1500 + the cost of the box ..

IPT and Leve10 sell rebuild kits with uprated parts, clutchpacks, seals, gaskets, pumps etc (about $1000-1200USD IIRC). If you can find an outfit that'll use one of these kits to rebuild your 'box, then go for it, bear in mind that they'll never have done it before. You'll be at ground zero in your 500+BHP 180+MPH 2tonne road barge, I hope the 'box holds up. I know I don't feel safe at the moment.
I've pretty much given up trying to find someone who's not bullshitting when rebuilding the HP24, however there are a load of outfits that claim they can remove the 'box with engine in situ. Many claiming that new tooling since the release of the RS6 have made it waaay easier.
I'd rather just get the 'box rebuilt in the US, it's just as risky and it's not been done in the UK, yet. Both IPT and Level10 claim to perform extra porting and modifications to the 'box, get it matched with one of their uprated TCs and a modified VB, it's a compelling solution.
Shipping costs are tricky though, you'd do best to manage those yourself.

I would love to see the box removed and the engine left in ..

There are so many things that could go wrong and then the engine would need to be removed any way ..

There's at least 4 guys over on RS6.com that have done it leaving the engine in and they all say it's risky and you're better off dropping the lot as too much can go wrong.
