Corrosion near roof rails.
Corrosion near roof rails.
Hi all.
Has any one had this problem.? Rust spots under the paint in the channels either side of the car on the roof (just below the roof rails). The car is an avant. I know of one other that has had the same issue.
If any one has, have you gone down the route of trying to claim on the Audi anti corrosion warranty.
I have and it's not going well lol

Re: Corrosion near roof rails.
Audi's have 10 year rust guaranty, take it to a stealer quick-smart (a good one)and get them to honour it. You'll get your roof resprayed FOC.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Well iam already going through all this. But to write all this up is going to to take me a mo. watch this space.....il get on with it......then give it a read and I would be great full for all you comments.
Corrosion near roof rails.
So. I Purchased the car privately end of august 2011 and noticed the rust in the rails. Knowing that Audi have a long anti corrosion warranty I thought I'd try the local stealers.....................so hear it goes think its best if I bullet point this lol
> went to stealers (tail end of August) where they took photos of rust, took details of car and performed a paint depth test... Which it past
> waited for some sort of response phone call or letter maybe? But nothing
> returned to stealers three weeks later, where I was told we were just waiting! For what I wasn't too sure lol.
> two weeks past still nothing. So another visit to stealers, with same result. This time told that it can take a long time for these sort of things to get sorted???? Why is beyond me.
> so it's now a long time since first visit. It's probably November by now. And just to recap I've still had no phone call no covering letter, not a word to say that this was even being looked at.
> iam starting to get really pi**ed by now and getting a little more forcefull. So a get a phone call after another visit to the stealers saying that they are waiting for Audi uk to make a decision on the car
> still no conformation by phone or letter and it's now the Christmas holidays. So I go in between xmas and new year and ask the girl on the desk how I make a complaint about the level of service iam receiving. She kindly puts an email together expressing my complaints and sends it to stealers manager, body Shop manager and branch warranty manger.
> I leave the stealers and have a phone call within 20 mins, stating that it's now in hand and to "please bare with us as its the holidays and most people with influence over this are on hols". (granted)
> so two days ago I get a phone call from the body Shop representative, explains that Audi uk have authorised the work to be completed but NOT under the warranty but as a "GOOD WILL" gesture
> good news you would think.... But wait, they said they are only going to contribute 70% of the cost and therefore asking me to contribute the remaining 30% which works out to be £342.
> somehow I think iam being done here. They say it's not under warranty because under the terms of the 10 year anti corrosion, it covers panels from corroding from the inside out and not the type of corrosion.i have. But it's already been assessed by them that it's not caused by neglect, crash damage or scratch etc.
> so the local stealers aren't moving on it and say I've got 28 day to get the work done or money will not be released by Audi uk otherwise
> I've rang Audi uk and had the same over the phone with them, but have now placed a complaint with them, so that's the story so far as this was today. I should have a response within 24 hours from them.
I find it hard to believe that cosidering they are willing to pay 70% , why wouldn't they just pay the 100% for the sake keeping a customer happy that will quite easily return for future work and parts etc.
Also it's almost costed the wrong way round..... If the warranty was truly no use I this case surely a good will gesture would be for them to pay a little towards it and leave the majority to me, its as if by covering 70% of the cost they are excepting 70% of the liability??? That just my opinion.
There are other bits and bobs but it's just too much to add.
So well. For all of you that are well and truly board and got this far, I would be greatful for any comments good or bad. And all advise is welcome

Re: Corrosion near roof rails.
TL;DR
There's no mention of goodwill gestures in the Audi anti-corrosion warranty, stand firm, tell them you want their reply to your claim in writing and addressed to you. Also tell them your next step is to send a letter of intent and then submission to the OFT regarding warranty breach.

Re: Corrosion near roof rails.
Get someone to commit in writing what they are saying, noteably that the corrosion is not your fault.
Fill in an N1 form, naming the dealer but don't sign it. Take it to them and tell them to sort it or the next step is small claims court for the paintwork and costs. Don't let them fob you off onto Audi UK.
If they play hardball, make a claim on line. Costs £10 IIRC.

Not that I have any evidence that she drives an audi because she was sat behind a desk, but iam guessing she has one.

Thanks bam bam and Shop.
I have been really trying to get something in writing but it's not been easy. And still to this day have nothing.
Shop? Is this the form you mention http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/wirr ... urt/n1.pdf

Re: Corrosion near roof rails.
That's the one. But don't show it to them too soon or they'll clam up.
Can't you email the dealer briefly outlining the facts and asking him if he's made any progress? Email evidence is fine;
Not sure where you stand on recording phone calls.

By the way, this is a really common problem. Is yours Daytona by any chance?

Re: Corrosion near roof rails.
You can do it by e-mail as well, that's just as good as a printed letter. Take all your notes and put them together, then get someone else to proof read it for you. Make sure you write it in the same way you woould a normal letter. Hopefully you have the names of all the people that you've spoken to and can get their e-mail address of the dealer website.
Also make sure that you give them a time limit to respond to you, and make sure you cc yourself. If you send it off to a number of people and the reply does not include them, just add those missed out again.
Good luck and don't let this go.
Cheers
Garry

Thanks shop. I guessed that it may be a problem as I know one other with the rust so that's a 100% of the people I know with the issue lol.
Funny cus we both have Daytona's, so why do you ask this was it a problem with just this colour batch or something.
So if this is a common issue is there previous threads on it that I could look at as I've search and can't find too much on it.

Also, I didn't get the phone call I was promised today after speaking to Audi uk yesterday. Not at all surprised.
Re: Corrosion near roof rails.
I think Daytonas suffer more than the other colours. Not a scientific conclusion, just my impression. Mine is daytona and has a couple of tiny spot, despite the car always sleeping indoors.

Thanks Garry. Like you've said, it's time to take it to the next stage. But iam really struggling to get them to commit in writing on what they will do for me. I wanted people on the forum to give me a second opinions (thanks to all, more welcome obviously) I wasn't sure if it was just me but in the grand scheme of thing £340 odd pound is cheap for Audi to do it, but it's the principal that iam fighting and not the cost. Like bam bam said theirs no mention of the Audi good will gesture warranty anywhere. Thanks again
