looking to buy an rs6
looking to buy an rs6
Hi, I am looking for some advice - I have always wanted an rs6 and would like to purchase one, I have an a4 avant special edition I am looking to swap or trade for one, can anyone point me in the rite direction ?
Re: looking to buy an rs6
Are you really sure you want an RS 6?
Horrendous fuel consumption , massive service bills unless the car has been looked after!! But the best car you can get if you go in with your eyes wide open
ohh and watch out for anyone that mentions modifications .....

mmmm interesting, I do have the benefit of knowing an audi mechanic, but that dosent stop the huge running costs, it shall be used as a weekend/summer car and not everyday, the one i am considering buying has had one owner from new and has a milltek exhaust and is chipped by star preformance in scotland !!!

Chipped or non chipped you wouldn't know the difference unless you've been in one to compare. There heavy 4x4 cars but still quick for there weight, you wouldn't notice if it had 450 or 530, unless you had been in one to compare. You would still thnk it's a very quick estate

Re: looking to buy an rs6
the motor i have been looking at buying has never had a new gearbox or the suspension problems (so i believe) that the cars seemingly get, this concerns me a bit, i really do want an rs6 but I am scared of getting ripped or having a huge bill for any problems with the above, I can remove the chip and put it back to standard but i would keep the exhaust as it is stainless steel, but i do like the idea of 500 bhp instead of 450 bhp lol
Re: looking to buy an rs6
Have you read the buyer's guide in the stickies?
There are very few people I would trust to touch the ECU on an RS6. MRC or Viper Tuning. Maybe one guy in Germany that was recommended to me by Wagner Tuning, but that's it.

If the suspension is still DRC it WILL have failed regardless of use and maintenance - I bet there is not a single car still running with the system it came out of the GmbH factory with.
Nice to have 500bhp but as Shop said there are very few real specialists who can really tune these cars. Have a search in here for the gearbox survey, big bill if it does go, my car has just hit 54k and it's on gearbox 2.
Amazing cars and love mine but it's a hell of a commitment keeping them tip top!

I would avoid any car that has been "Chipped". Your going from one compromise to another. These car's need to be re-mapped by people that know how the ECU works inside out. As Shop has already stated there are only a few that can ever be trusted with tuning an RS6. It would be intersting to see what the results of a rolling road test, my bet is the car is producing near factory figures.
There are plenty of RS6's out there, take your time and find a good one.
Good luck in your search.

Re: looking to buy an rs6
Having previously owned an A4 Avant myself, I switched to the RS6 Avant 4 yrs ago, I sincerely don't regret it at all. I needed the extra space, but I couldn't bring myself to buy the standard A6 or switch to the M5 touring. Yes, it's hefty on the pocket, but what super-car ain't? Just make sure that what ever you buy, it's been properly looked after.

The RS6 ecu is no more special than any other VAG ecu . An off-the shelf remap is not the best but a custom live remap is better.
Graeme, have a read of the RS6 buyers guide.
What is your budget?
Keep an eye on the classifieds section, pistonheads, autotrader and eBay.
What ever you do, get the potential purchase inspected by Unit 20 or MRC both RS6 specialist

Graeme, go back along the posts and see who Marv and myself have directed our scorn towards... hint, it ain't you. However, thanks for letting us do "whatever floats yer boat", it's good to know we've got your blessing.
